Control of Heavy Metals in Food Grade Enzyme products

Novozymes A/S is a manufacturer of enzyme products.

For our product:

Lipopan Xtra BG

Novozymes heavy metal specificaion can be found on the product data sheet.
For food grade products, the maximum allowable limits are listed below:

Total heavy metals*: max 30 mg/kg


Lead: max 5 mg/kg
Arsenic: max 3 mg/kg
Cadmium: max 0.5 mg/kg
Mercury: max 0.5 mg/kg
* The total heavy metal content is a sum of the elements

Ag, As ,Bi ,Cd, Cu, Hg, Mo, Ni, Pb, Sb and Sn.

Historical data from our surveillance of food grade enzyme products (tests of more than 1000
batches) show that the level of heavy metals in general is significantly lower than
specifications.

Continued compliance is ensured by:

• Use of raw materials assessed suitable for use in food grade products
• Production in equipment suitable for food contact
• Spot checks and surveillance of selected products

Analyses for heavy metals are performed by ICP-MS by an external recognized laboratory
which complies with the requirements in EN ISO/IEC 17025.

enzymes given by the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Commitee on Food Additives (JECFA) the Food
Chemical Codex (FCC).
