Textile Lab Report Title

This lab report details an experiment to determine the average length of cotton fibers. Students are introduced to the importance of measuring fiber length for making fabrics. The procedure involves taking a tuft of cotton fibers, removing short fibers, measuring the length of 4-5 individual fibers, and calculating the average length. The results show the average length of the measured cotton fibers was 2.42 cm.

TEXTILE LAB REPORT

Title:
Determination of the length of the cotton
fibres.
Objective:
To familiarize students about the
determination of cotton fibres.
Theory:
Fibre is the major unit of the fabric. To
make a fabric, first we have to determine the
strength, length and fineness of that fibres.
In this practical, we are going to find the
length of that fibres manually.
Apparatus:
oScale
oTuft of fibres
oPlace with Black background

Procedure:
1. First take a bundle of cotton fibre and
make a tuft of that fibres (almost 150
fibres).
2. Remove all short fibres.
3. After removing these fibres, take a
fibre from tuft and measure it.
4. Repeat this procedure almost 4 times
and then take average of this.
Calculations:
Length of first fibre= 2.8cm
// // 2nd // = 3cm
// // 3rd // = 3.2cm
// // 4th // = 3.1cm
// // 5th // = 2.9cm
Average= 2.8+3+3.2+3.1+2.9
5
= 2.42cm
Results:
The average of the fibre length is 2.42cm.
Conclusion:
For 5 times, the lengths of the fibres is taken
out and then the average value is determined
which is 2.42 cm.
