LEARNING TASK 3

Directions: Write an essay about a time when you had to choose something over another. Tell
about the outcome and how it affected you. Kindly use this rubric as a guide when writing your
essay.
Choosing something over another is a form of decision-making. It is our daily task to
make decision, even in our ordinary set up. Choosing what to do or not to do or even choosing
what to wear, this are the small decisions we make which is also utterly vital in our everyday
living. On the other aspect, we also make enormous decisions like choosing something over
other that will test our personality and our way to solve problems in our life. Before making
decision we, need to ask ourselves what we really want and looking ahead to what potential
effect the decision could bring to us and to the people around us.
As I get older, I am starting to make decisions for myself and as I make decisions and the
result is good, I become proud of myself. From time to time many decisions has been made, it
adds up to my experience and it makes me get ready for the new challenges were in I have to
choose over a thing and another. When we are financially unstable because of the pandemic it
is the time when I have to choose something over another. It is not easy because when I was a
child all that I need is in front of me and I do not need to think about the next day that will
come because I have my parents that supports me all the way out. During this time, I am not
fully ready there are days that I am questioning my worth as a human and become anxious of
the thought that I cannot help my family. Moreover, I cannot help to think of it every night. My
thoughts are haunting me to the point that I just want to lay down and sleep to escape reality.
One day I realize that I need to make a move not just for my family but also to myself. I
learned how to choose between my needs and wants. I also learned the value of each thing
that exist in this world and know what is really essential for myself and for my family. Small
sacrifices mean a lot for my parents they said that it is helpful to our family. Budgeting my
allowance better and saving up for the future is one thing that I will always bring because of this
experience. By applying small changes, we are adapting and slowly figuring things out. Lastly,
because of this experience it makes a better version of myself―a stronger one that is ready to
face the challenges of life whether it is small of big circumstances.
Choosing what is important over two things is an everyday riddle we need to resolve. It
is a mental process that trains us continuously. We become more organize in achieving our
objectives and learn to think of alternatives. According to Millet there are three (3) factors in
decision-making, it is the personal differences, role of knowledge, and institutional and
personal factors, which are present in my case of making decision. I learned so many things
because of the time I have to choose and the most important thing that I learned is we cannot
always choose two things at the same time we need to know want is the most important to us
and learn to value things around us while we have it and also embrace the present that is an
important gift to all of us.
