Lesson7-Advanced Function Blocks
Lesson7-Advanced Function Blocks
This is a series of smaller exercises that incorporate additional controls common to process
control. The following exercises will also require more investigation in the on-line manuals
on your part to
part to create these function blocks.
• You may have to adjust tuning parameters to get these blocks to work.
work.
This function block allows an upstream function block to output to two different modules or
function blocks. The two outputs can overlap to give a “blending” of steam and water, if used in
that manner.
• Define the outputs so that MV1
MV1 is reverse acting and operates between 0-75%
0-75% of the SPLIT
SPLIT
MV range.
• Define the outputs so that MV2
MV2 is direct acting and operates between 25-100% of the SPLIT
SPLIT
MV range.

The “RATIO” block allows the user to define the relation between two flows. In this simulation
you will create two PID function blocks, one with a flow of 0-100 G PM, and the other with a flow of
0-75 GPM. Use the “On-line Manual” to help build this function block and answer these questions.
• What does the RATIO “SV” do?
• Change the “Gain” in the “RATIO” block. What happens?
• Return the “Gain” to its initial value, and then change the “Bias” in the “RATIO” block. What
happens?
