What Are The C Values of The Loaded Beams Shown Below (Note-Loads Shown Are Design Loads) : Lateral Restraints at Fixed Supports Only

The document provides tutorial questions about calculating C1 values and lateral torsional buckling moment capacity for various loaded beam configurations. It includes 4 beam diagrams with point loads and restraints and asks to calculate the C1 value for each. It also includes a beam diagram under 3 point loads and asks to determine the lateral torsional buckling moment capacity according to Eurocode standards.

Week 1 Session 2 - Tutorial Question:

1. What are the C1 values of the loaded beams shown below (Note- loads shown are
design loads):
a) Lateral restraints at fixed supports only

(C1 = Approx 1.63)

b)

(C1 = Approx 1.05)

c) Note: - Loading, support and span as a) but with additional mid span restraint

(C1 = Approx 2.42)

d) Beam supporting three point loads with restraints at supports and point loads 1 & 3
only.

(C1 = Approx 1.11)

2. Consider the S275 – 305 x 165 x 40UBUB shown below. Lateral torsional
restraints are provided at the supports and point load only. In accordance with
BS EN 1993 determine lateral torsional buckling moment capacity, Mb,Rd for the beam
subject to the characteristic loads shown.

Mcr = 1.39 x 98.97 x 10 4 { (21466 + 12031) }

= 251800000N mm = 251.8kNm

Mb,Rd = 0.81 x 623 x 10 3 x 275 x 10 -6 = 138.8kNm
