I. Introduction

The judgment of ideas and point of views presented in texts or other


platforms are important for students' growth as independent thinkers. Learning
how to analyze and critically evaluate information's truthfulness help them
develop a sound framework to test their arguments and enrich their points of
view. Furthermore, it is only through sound judgment and worth of ideas that
students can distinguish and decide among challenging claims for truth, and
determine which arguments and points of views they can trust and those of
which they should be skeptical, especially when they view and/or listen to the
information in the internet or other technological advancement.

II. Learning Competency

Judge the relevance and worth of ideas, soundness of author’s reasoning, and
the effectiveness of the presentation

III. Objectives
At the end of this learning activity sheet, you are expected to:

1. take a stand on critical issues brought up in the material viewed;


2. discuss the general ideas in a discussion; and
3. show respect on one’s opinion and ideas.

IV. Discussion

Literature as one of its purposes, makes people understand and learn from
ideas it contains. This is especially appreciated when the literary piece has ideas
that are sound and that can be applied in the reader’s own daily life. Thus, literature
is seen as especially valuable and must be appreciated because it is relevant to the
reader. In order to find distinction in literature, readers first judge how solid the
ideas and how sound the judgment of an author is. In this way, the author can act
as the voice of wisdom that teaches a reader without the reader himself /herself
having to go through the experience that the author had gone through.

It is significant for us to know how to discern certain viewpoints, stories, and


ideas deemed truthful and relevant while reading them in print or online. Judgment
in reading is the ability to make considered decisions or come to sensible
conclusions while considering the text's details. This generally helps readers in the
analysis of the information presented.

In identifying the relevance and worth of ideas, we should look for
sentences that are relevant to the paragraph’s main subject and point. While
the topic sentence sets up the main idea, the rest of the sentences provide
details that support or explain this main idea.

V. Activities

A. Digging for Details

Directions: Formulate a discussion to confer the issues in the pictures below.


Use the data that you will gather from this activity in digging for the relevance
and worth of the ideas presented. Write your answers on a separate sheet of
paper.

VI. ASSESSMENT
