Waterflooding Pilot Projects Overview

This document discusses waterflooding pilot projects in oil fields to increase oil recovery. It specifically discusses the Culebra oil field project in Ecuador. 22 secondary recovery projects have increased oil reserves by 57 million barrels. The Culebra project started water injection in January 2017 into the lower Napo U reservoir through well CLBB-017. This has increased oil production from 3,200 to 4,000 barrels per day and raised reservoir pressure from 1,100 to 1,400 psi. A graph shows that incremental oil production from secondary recovery is projected to be 28 million barrels over 28 years. Facility changes have improved injectivity and injection water quality at the Culebra field.

Facies
The lower U-reservoir shows a lithology of grain
type retrograde, shown by the disposition of the
Superficie de inundación layers during their deposition, product of the
transgression caused by the entry of the sea to
the continent. It is identified as a depositional
Superficie de
inundación sequence of a distributary channel.

Water Injection System
CLBB-017 CULEBRA-17D injects water into the lower Napo U reservoir to mobilize the remaining oil
reserves. The injection water comes from the Lower Hollin sandstone of the well CULEBRA-
