PHYSICAL CHEMISTRY : NA (SODIUM SIR)

ASSIGNMENT-1

1. NH2COONH4(s)  2NH3(g) + CO2(g)

2.46 L at 600K is :
(A) 6.33 g (B) 39 g (C) 18.99 g (D) 78 g

2. A mixture of SO2 & O2 was made to react in such a way that every gram of mixture gives maximum amount
of SO3. The mass % of SO2 in the original mixture was :
(A) 30 (B) 80 (C) 60 (D) None of these

3. What mass of 90% pure CaCO3 needed to produce 22 gm of CO2 ?

(A) 50 g (B) 55.56 g (C) 56.56 g (D) 45 g

4. Mg reacts with oxygen according to the reaction : Mg + O2  MgO

if 48 g Mg is reacted with 64 g of O2 then select the correct statement :
(A) Maximum 2 moles of O2 will be reacted
(B) Neither Mg nor O2 will be limiting reactant
(C) Maximum 2 mole of MgO will produce after reaction
(D) O2 may be considered as limiting reactant

5. Select the sample which contains maximum number of atoms :

(A) 100 ml O3 (g) at 1 atm and 0ºC (B) 100 ml O2 (g) at 1 atm and 273 K
(C) 100 ml H2O at 1 atm and 127ºC (D) 100 ml H2O at 1 atm and 273 K

Comprehension (Q.6 to Q.8)

The amount of product is determined by the amount of the reactant that is not in excess and is used up
completely in the reaction. This is called the limiting Reagent.
A limiting reagent is the reactant that determines the theoretical yield of product in a given reaction.
The amount of a product that is formed when the limiting reagent is completely used up is called the
theoretical yield of the product.
In the laboratory, the calculated amount of product is hardly obtained. When less than the theoretical yield of
product is obtained, chemists generally calculate the percentage yield of product to describe how well the
preparation went. The percentage yield is defined as.
actual yield
Percentage yield = × 100
theoritical yield
6. In the reaction, 4NH3 + 5O2  4NO + 6H2O
When 2 moles of NH3 and 2 moles of oxygen are made to react completely then
(A) 2 moles of H2O is produced (B) 2 moles of NO is formed
(C) all oxygen is consumed (D) all ammonia is consumed

What was the percentage yield ?
(A) 9 (B) 60 (C) 90 (D) None of these
8. A mixture is prepared that consists of 4.0 L of SO2 and 3.4 L of H2S upon heating, the following reaction take
place : SO2 + 2H2S  3S + 2H2O
Under the same conditions of the experiments, the density of SO2 is 2.8 g/L and that of H2S is 2 g/L.
If % yield of rection is 90. What mass of sulphur is formed?
(A) 6.40 g (B) 15.12 g (C) 9.6 g (D) 8.64 g
