The language of the portrait

A portrait is a painting or a photograph of a person
especially their face. Did you know that you can
express the emotions and character of a person
through their portrait? Thanks to a work of this type
you can understand what a person was like, how lived in
the time or even what liked to eat. For this reason, the
portrait has been very important throughout the
history of art.
The colors in the portrait
In many paintings the emotions of the
portrayed characters can change their
environment. Take, for example, the
portrait of "Doctor Gachet" a painting by
Vincent Van Gogh. What do you think is his
state of mind?
For painters, colors express our feelings
and emotions. For example, for many
people blue reflects calm.
This portrait is called Fränzy in front of a
carved chair and it is a work of the artist
Ernst Kirchner. Why do you think the
girl's face is green? How do you think
Fränzy is?

colors

Warm colors
They are the range of colors
between yellow and red-violet
(red, yellow and orange). We
associate them with sunlight, fire;
hence its "hot" rating. The warm
tones seem to advance and
spread. They are also known as
active colors.
Cold colors
They are the range of colors that
goes from greenish yellow to
violet through blue. They are
those colors that we associate
with water, ice and moonlight, the
color blue being the highest
representative and those who
participate with it. They are also
known as passive colors.
