Vocabulary
1. Muscular system: The muscular system is
an organ system consisting of skeletal, smooth
and cardiac muscles. It permits movement of
the body, maintains posture and circulates
blood throughout the body. ... Together with
the skeletal system, it forms the
musculoskeletal system, which is responsible
for movement of the human body.
2. Muscle: It is a band or bundle of fibrous
tissue in a human or animal body that has the
ability to contract, producing movement in or
maintaining the position of parts of the body.
3. Voluntary muscle: Voluntary means done out of free
will or by choice. Voluntary muscles are also often called
skeletal muscles (because all of the muscles attached to
the skeleton are voluntary muscles) or striated muscles
(because the muscle fibers make them look striated, or
stripy).
4. Involuntary muscles: A muscle that contracts without
conscious control and found in walls of internal organs such as
stomach and intestine and bladder and blood vessels (excluding
the heart).
5. Skeletal muscle: Skeletal muscle, also called
voluntary muscle, in vertebrates, most common of the
three types of muscle in the body. ... Skeletal muscles are
attached to bones by tendons, and they produce all the
movements of body parts in relation to each other.
6. Tendon: A tendon or sinew is a
tough band of fibrous connective tissue
that connects muscle to bone and is
capable of withstanding tension.
7. Cardiac muscle: Cardiac muscle
tissue, or myocardium, is a specialized
type of muscle tissue that forms the
heart. This muscle tissue, which
contracts and releases involuntarily, is
responsible for keeping the heart
pumping blood around the body.
8. Smooth muscle: Smooth muscle, also called
involuntary muscle, muscle that shows no cross stripes
under microscopic magnification. It consists of narrow
spindle-shaped cells with a single, centrally located
nucleus.
9. Muscle control: Is the regulation of
movement in organisms that possess a
nervous system. Motor control includes
reflexes as well as directed movement.
10.Human body levers: A lever is a rigid object
that is used with an appropriate fulcrum or pivot
point to multiply the mechanical force that can be
applied. Most of the muscles in the human body
use bones as the levers against which they work
and are one of the ways of assisting movement.
