SJK(T) Kalaivaani Thursday is English Day

Introduction
‘Thursday is English Day’ is held as part of Highly Immersive Program (HIP) spearheaded by Ministry Of
Education. This program is organized by the English Panel of SJKT Kalaivaani. The main aim of this
program is to encourage use of English as a medium of communication among administrators, teachers,
staffs and students of SJKT Kalaivaani. It is hoped that this program will get full cooperation from the
school community to achieve the desired objectives.

Objectives

1. To provide a platform for students to practice speaking in English.


2. To encourage the school community to use English as a medium of interaction.
3. To encourage students to participate in school-level language competitions.
4. To expand students’ vocabulary and improve pronunciation of English words.
5. To nurture and enhance students’ interest in mastering English language.

Rationale
English is the language of international communication. It is the main language for studying any subject
all over the world. Knowing English increases the chances of getting a good career in future. English is
also an important language online as most content on the internet is written in English. As such, it is
important to instill interests among younger generation to learn and speak in English.

1. The entire school community communicates only in English every Thursday.
2. Games, quizzes and fun activities organized for students during English lesson.
3. Students who excel in games and communicate entirely in English will be rewarded.
4. Administrators, teachers and staffs who take part actively in the program will be rewarded.
