This ONLINE WRITTEN EXAM is conducted to assess the writing prowess of the entrants to the Special

Program in Journalism. The program is strictly looking for students who can bear the rigors of writing either in
print or broadcast media. Writing is a basic requirement, as any paper or broadcast production originates from
a piece of draft or manuscript.
While the program also looks for students who have special skills in taking pictures, layouting, digital
manipulation, and radio/tv techinicalities, WRITING is indispensable in journalism.

Guidelines

1. Eligible takers of the ONLINE WRITTEN EXAM for aspiring Grade 7 Special Program in Journalism
(SPJ) students are those who have passed the first phase of the screening process, i.e. evaluation
of the Form 138-A (Report Card).

2. The said exam can be found in the next page. Read carefully. Follow directions. (We can learn so
much from you in this simple, yet very crucial comprehension challenge.)

3. The exam is scheduled on JULY 22, 2020. You have the luxury of time to start the test from 8:00
a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

4. Create another word document for your responses. Copy the sample given. Label the parts of the
exam properly for easy checking. Use Segoe UI Light, Cambria or Century Gothic as typeface.
For the body text, use 10 as font size, 12 for sub-titles, 14 for titles. Use black color for text ONLY.
Avoid unnecessary designs in the page.

5. Upload your file (Answer Sheet - pdf format) in the link that will be sent to your email or mobile
number on or before 5:00 p.m. of July 22, 2020.

PAUSE. Please do not be sensitive on the next item. We at SPJ train our journos NOT TO BE
ONION-SKINNED. Blunt as it may be, that’s how things should be.

5. Avoid PLAGIARISM. Achieve ORIGINALITY. Since this is an online exam and nobody watches over
you, we remind you to refrain from getting or copying articles from other sources. We would
also like to discourage having a family or a friend from doing the task for you. Please work on
your own. (We know you are tough enough to pass the challenges.).

TIP: If you are to use works of other authors in your article, please apply proper CITATION.
Excessive quoting is highly discouraged. You can either summarize main points or paraphrase.

NOTE: Articles written in this exam will be subjected to PLAGIARISM CHECKER. Any proof of
plagiarism is a strong ground for DISQUALIFICATION in the program.

All the best! Take that pill of and start hitting that keyboard of yours.

As parents, we like to tell our kids they can be anything they want when they
grow up. But we don’t often stop to think about all the things they already are
right now.

Even though they may be years away from writing résumés or sweating through
job interviews, our children have loads of skills that can help them perform all
sorts of careers.

Like journalism.

If you think it’s crazy to say your tiny tyke is ready to take on a reporting job
right now, consider the two key skills all news people need: investigating and
storytelling. Now consider how amazing your kid is at both.
Palace firm on August 24
opening of classes

MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang is firm

on its decision to start classes on Aug. 24
despite concerns that some areas are not
ready for blended learning because of lack
of reliable internet access.

Section 3 of Republic Act No. 7797 states

that the school year shall start on the first
Monday of June but not later than the last
day of August.

The Department of Education (DepEd) has

adopted blended learning, which uses the
internet, television, radio and modules, this
school year as it is risky to hold face-to-
face classes because of the coronavirus
disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

Education Secretary Leonor Briones has

said the target is to open classes on Aug.
24, arguing that the students should not be
left behind in terms of learning despite the
health crisis.
