Marsyangdi Corridor 220 kV Transmission Line Project
A) Project Detail/ Scope:
Marsyangdi Corridor 220 kV Transmission Line Project once completed will evacuate approximately
1600 MW of power generated by various hydropower stations in the Marsyangdi basin/ Marsyangdi
River Corridor. The Project comprises of construction of 110 km long Double Circuit Transmission
Line from Manang (Dharapani) to Chitawan (Bharatpur) and associated 220/132/33 kV, 160 MVA
substations at Dharapani of Manang, Khudi and Udipur at Lamjung and New Bharatpur at Chitawan.
The length of upper section of 220 kV, double circuit transmission line with twin conductor from
Dharapani to Udipur is 45.57 km. Similarly, the length of lower section of 220 kV, double circuit
transmission line with twin HTLS, ACCC Drake conductor from Udipur to Bharatpur is 64.46 km.
Estimated total project cost is US$ 90 million and is funded by EIB.
The complete Project is divided into two divisions.
Division 1: Manang-Khudi-Udipur Division

EIA report has been approved from Ministry of Environment and Forest

Most of the design has been already approved
Land Preparation and retaining wall work is going on.
Khudi-Udipur Section
Survey and associated activities
o Line Route Survey and tower spotting of Khudi-Udipur Section of line has been
completed
o Land parceling work for Khudi-Udipur section of line will start very soon. Letter
has been already dispatched to land survey department.
o For Re-Tree Counting, letter has been dispatched to Ministry of Energy and
within few days the work will start.
Division 2: Udipur-Markichowk-Bharatpur Division

C) Hindrance of the Project:
Main hindrance for the implementation of the Project is ROW issues of transmission line. Public
are demanding 100 % compensation towards the diminution of land in the width of ROW.
However, only fixed percentage is given as compensation, in line with Electricity Regulation,
2050, for such land. This has caused local people to obstruct vehemently.
D) Effort to Mitigate Hindrance

Project will coordinate with local people, local governing bodies and political parties for the
mitigation of ROW issues
