The documentary provided new historical information about the pivotal event in 1897 where brothers Andres and Procopio Bonifacio were killed in Marogondon on Emilio Aguinaldo's orders, marking a change in the Philippine Revolution. While the trial and execution of Bonifacio are well known, some details remain unclear. The documentary interviewed descendants of both families about their ancestors and provided different perspectives on what happened. The critique found the documentary to be of great quality for presenting opinions of both families, though it did not fully resolve how Andres died. The personal takeaway was that it is difficult to judge past scenarios without modern technology, and there are still unanswered questions about what exactly happened to Andres.

“ANG LIHIM NG 1897”

What are the new historical information which you have learned from the documentary?

One hundred twenty-two years ago, one of the most pivotal events in Philippine history
occurred: Two brothers, Andres and Procopio, were killed in the mountains of Marogondon. The
execution of the Bonifacio brothers on Emilio Aguinaldo’s orders signified a new change in the
Philippine Revolution, one that would ultimately lead to the Pact of Biak-na-Bato and Aguinaldo’s
exile to Hong Kong. Multiple anecdotes have been written about the incident, and the story of
Bonifacio’s trial and execution are well-known, but some details still remain unclear even now.
Here, a look back at the events leading to that fateful day. And I believed that our worst enemy is
our allies.

Write your Video critique

The video was great and still questionable how did Andres died. In this documentary that they
interview new generation of both sides about what is happen to back then about their ancestors.
So it’s a great quality video documentary of those two family about their opinions.

What is your personal take away from the said documentary?

As my opinion back then it is very hard to judge a scenario because that time technology was
still not existing so you cannot tell what happens. Still we don’t know really how did Andres
died, it is because of Aguinaldo’s order? They both also the same way to raised their flag but in
their own way. And also Aguinaldo is a kind of selfish he use his power to kill. And also
unanswered questions that what really happen to Andres.
Those events that had happened in the past, are they still happening at present especially in the
context of the Philippine government? Cite past scenarios and parallel to present condition.

We called history, and history repeat itself. Just like now in our government they use their power to
powerless people. Also still we have issues between government and activist just like in the past. And
still we are not a developed country because of the government, people etc. Are we really want to
repeat history people never learn about the past they just want money, power, own interest.
