GE Power & Water
Waukesha* gas engines TOPIC: Fuel System
SAFETY ALERT
IDENT NO: 9-3090
DATE: June 2014
275GL* & AT SUPERSEDES: New
SUBJECT: Potential Gas Leak – Gas Inlet Shutoff Valve (P/N 295447)
MODELS AFFECTED: AT25/AT27/275GL/GL+ engines
SAFETY ALERT: Failure to comply with this safety
alert could result in personal injury or equipment
damage. All field sites should be inspected and, if
necessary, corrected as soon as feasible.
Fuel gas leaks have been reported on some A25/
AT27/275GL/GL+ engines with gas inlet shutoff valve
P/N 295447. This affects all engines built before
April 8, 2014. GE Waukesha gas engines takes fuel
gas leaks very seriously and requires all subject
engines to have leak tests performed. Leaks have
been reported at the body joint of the gas inlet shutoff
valve (P/N 295447).
• At the first opportunity, check the gas inlet shutoff
valve for leaks. Check the entire system, with
Figure 1
particular attention to the Amot body joint shown in
Figure 1.
• Leak checks may be performed by infrared thermal
imaging, soap bubble test, methane sniffers or other
proven leak detection methods.
• If any leaks are found, the engine is to be shut down
and the valve replaced with the improved valve
design using an O-ring seal. Order P/N 295447A.
• As is general good practice:
– Make sure that the engine room ventilation
system is working properly.
– Do not enter the engine room unless
necessary.
– Follow all GE Waukesha and site-specific
safety precautions.
