Brief History of the Barangay

The place is legendary known to have gotten its name “LUSSOC” from a famous tale, which
the old folks have passed from generations to generation.
The story goes:
In the olden days, where only few houses were yet seen in the barangay, the few people
living here rested their carabaos after a day’s work in a spring situated at the southern end of
the barangay (now near the entrance mark).
One late afternoon, two farmers went to that spring to give their carabaos a cool sooting bath
after a day-long plowing in the field. The carabaos were a Kabay-an (female) and
Kalakian(male).
Like human beings longinf for a refreshing dip, the two took plunge into the clear water. As
they did so, the owners also began to relate to each other the day’s accomplishment and work.
The folks didn’t notice that their carabaos were sinking deeper and deeper into the water.
Deep in conversation, it was late when they realized that their carabaos were no longer there.
They looked around thinking the two carabaos had gone astray looking for some green grass
to graze. But the two simply disappeared. They took a dive into the spring but the carabaos
were not there, instead, on the spring ben, they found a big hole the size of a carabao.
The barrio folks did not associate the hola to the carabaos at first. They just presumed that the
hole was already there for a long time (for nobody tried diving that deep befor). The
following morning, news reached the barrion folks that there were two carabaos of unknown
ownership, which were at the mouth of the sea at the western part of the town.the two owners
went to see if theose were theirs.
To their amazement, the carabaos were theirs. The people then concluded that the two passed
through the big hole which led to a tunnel which is connected to the seaside. Hence since
then, the name Lussoc which means a whole was adopted as a name to this place.
In the late 60’s, a move to change the name into San Isidro, in honor of the patron sant was
started. The move was made because when ladies come to the place, transport services would
always ask “Agpa – Lussoc ka Ading?” which has a bad connotation. Or if people would ask
the name of the place where they come from, upon hearing the name of the place, some
unfavorable remarks would be heard. But the old folks decided against changing the name of
the place, because its water is steadily flowing even during summer time. It is a source of
irrigation to the farmers situated at the southern and southwestern part of the place. This is
the story on why the place has maintained its name “LUSSOC”.
