Unit 1 Aasign Set 2 For 2020-24 Batch

This document contains 8 problems related to calculating magnetic properties such as flux, reluctance, magnetomotive force, and flux density in solenoidal coils wound around iron cores with air gaps. The problems involve variables such as number of coil turns, current, core dimensions, air gap size, permeability and supply voltage to determine various magnetic quantities.

ASSIGNEMENT –I

1. A coil of insulated wire of 500 turns and of resistance 4 Ω is closely wound on iron ring. The
ring has a mean diameter of 0.25m and a uniform cross sectional area of 7oomm 2. Calculate
the total flux in the ring when a DC supply of 6V is applied to the ends of the winding.
Assume a relative permeability of 550.
2. An iron ring of mean length 50cm and relative permeability 300 has an airgap of 1 mm. If the
ring is provided with winding of 250 turns and a current of 1A is allowed to the flow through.
Find the flux density across the airgap.
3. A coil of 1000 turns is wound on a laminated core of steel having a cross section of 5 cm 2.
The core has an airgap of 2 mm cut at right angle. What value of current is required to have
an airgap flux density of 0.5T? Permeability may be taken as infinity. Determine the coil
inductance.
4. A coil is wound uniformly with 300 turns over a steel ring of relative permeability 900 having
a mean diameter of 20 cm. the steel ring is made of bar having circular cross section of
diameter 2cm. if the coil has a resistance of 50 Ω and is connected to 250V Dc supply.
Calculate (i) the mmf of the coil (ii) field intensity in the ring (iii) reluctance of the magnetic
path (iv) total flux and (v) permeance of the ring.
5. A rectangular magnetic core is given as square cross section of area 16cm 2. An airgap of 2mm
is cut across one of its limbs. Find the exciting current needed in the coil having 1000 turns
wound on the core to create an airgap flux of 4 mwb. The relative permeability of core is
2000.

6. An iron ring of 10cm 2 area has a mean circumference of 100 cm. if has a saw cut of 0.2 cm
wide. A flux of 1 mwb is required in the airgap. The leakage factor is 1.2. The flux density of
iron for relative permeability 400 is 1.2wb/m2. Calculate the no of ampere turns required?
7. A steel ring 10cm mean radius and of circular cross section of 1 cm in radius has an airgap of
1mm length. It is wound uniformly with 500 turns of wire carrying current of 3A. Neglect
magnetic leakage. The airgap takes 60% of the total mmf find the total reluctance.
8. Determine magneto motive force, magnetic flux, reluctance and flux density in core of a steel
ring 30cm mean diameter and a circular cross section 2 cm in diameter has an airgap 1mm
long. It is wound uniformly with 600 turns of wires carrying a current of 2.5A. Neglect
magnetic leakage. The iron path takes 40% total magneto motive force.
