Topic 1: Shopping

Do you like shopping?

Yes, Im a shopaholic. i really love buying stuffs such as
clothes, shoes, handbags, make-up tools etc. Going
shopping also one of the most popular option for me to
realise stress after long hours study.
Do you prefer shopping alone or with others?
It depends. For actual proper shopping, I prefer shopping
alone. It’s more liberating. But if I’m browsing then I like
doing so with friends or family.
What kind of shops are there where you live?
My area is the city center so there are various kind of
shop to buy. The most popular would probably
be boutiques. It also has supermarket, coffee shop and
restaurant so I can buy everything easily.
 Topic 2: Weather
What do you like to do when it’s hot?
When it’s hot, I often go swimming with my brother at
the swimming pool. My mother will buy monthly ticket
for us so we can go swimming whenever we want.
Sometime we stay at home or somewhere in an air-
conditioned indoor location to cool down.
What do you like to do in the winter?
In the winter, I prefer staying indoors to going out as
much as possible because I hate cold weather. I often read
books or watch movie. I’m really into watching movie so
I can spend a whole day in bed and watch Netflix series.
Does the weather ever affect the way you feel?
I’m easily affected by change in the weather. Rainy days
always get me down because it often makes me feel
reluctant to leave the house. Sunny days will make me
feel happy and want to hang out with my friend to go
shopping or meet up for a drink.
How do rainy days make you feel?
It really depends on how many days it's been since it last
rained. If it continues for weeks without stopping, it
makes me feel uncomfortable. If we've had a streak of hot
weather, then I welcome a rainy day. 
What do people often do when it’s sunny/rainy?
Sunny: People often do outside activites such as play
sports, have a picnic or go to the ZOO, etc. Warm and
sunny during the day is the best weather to go outside
with our friend or our family. Sometime they stay at home
or somewhere in an air-conditioned indoor location to
cool down.
Rainy: People often stay indoor because the road will
become dirty and wet. It doesn’t suitable for playing and
walking. They can do some activities at home: read book,
watch movies, play game, ….
Does it rain much in your country?
I would say yes. As it is entirely located in the tropical
belt, Vietnam receives quite a great amount of
precipitation every year. There is torrential rain in the
region in June, July and August
Is there any part of your country where it doesn’t rain
much?
To tell you the truth, I have no clue about this. But I guess
the driest place in Vietnam might possibly be Ninh Thuan
province. The weather there is quite extreme with a lot of
wind as well as a hot and dry atmosphere during the year
and the average temperature is higher than most other
parts of the country.
In what month/season does it rain most in your
hometown?
Well, currently, I am living in Hanoi, which is located in
the northern part of Vietnam. The rainy season comes
during the summer months, extending from mid-April to
mid-October. It usually rains heavily and causes loads of
troubles for people moving on the road.
Can you remember any time when it rained particularly
heavily in your country?
Yes, of course. That would be last Tet holiday. It was
raining cats and dogs and then hailing. So, yeah, that was
probably the worst time I can remember.
Does rain ever affect transportation in your hometown?
Yeah, of course. Traffic is often held up when it rains. All
the roads are clogged, and people find it difficult to
escape from traffic congestion. I would stay at home and
watch TV rather than going out and being caught up in
traffic.
 Topic 3: Music
Do you like music?
Yes, like most people in the world, I like to listen to
music. Music can refresh my mind. And sometimes it
makes my mood better.
Has your music taste changed?
Yes, of course. When i was a child, i listened music on
TV or in school which the contents were towards to the
happiness and love in school, with friends and family; but
now i listen more about lovers and sadness in love.
Can you sing?
No, not really. I took singing classes when I was younger,
but, unfortunately, I am tone deaf, so I can't sing very well
Did you enjoy music lesson when you were at school?
No, I didn’t enjoy it. The teacher taught us nothing and
just played a song several time. So I was always playing
truant from the music lesson.
Do children have to learn to play musical instrument at
school in your country?
No, in Viet Nam, music is an optional subject. Children
don’t have to play musical instrument at school. If a child
has talent for music, he or she should go to educational
center or get a home tutor.
What do you think is the best age to start to learn to play a
musical instrument?
If someone wondering when to start music lessons, the
time is now! I think the best age to start learning music is
whenever you want to learn. Some people ask if they
were too old to learn music or wheather their child was
too young to start piano lessons. In my opinion that
learning music is for all ages.
What do you think would be the most difficult musical
instrument to learn to play?
Well, honestly, I’m not really interested in music and I
barely play musical instrument, so I have no idea about
the most difficult musical instrument to learn to play. But
I guess violin is the hardest instrument because my friend
is a violinist and she spent years learning, playing, and
perfecting her skills. She alw complain with me about
how it hard.
What kind of music do you listen to? Why?
I listen to different types musics. It depends on my mood.
When I am happy, I usually come to metal rock to boost
up my emotion. When I need to relax, or concentrate for
studying, I come to R&B.
 Topic 4: Clothes and fashion
Are clothes important to you?
No, clothes and fashions are not really important to me. I
don’t often pay much attention to what to wear or keep up
with fashion trends. I tend to wear clothes that are
comfortable and practical rather than fashionable.
What kinds of clothes do you usually wear?
What do most people in your country usually wear?
It depends on the weather. In summer, people usually
wear clothes with light fabric. When it’s cold, they often
wear a lot of sweater and jacket. The younger prefer
wearing hoodie with colour printed to show their
personalities.
What do you think of catwalk fashion? Can you wear the
same clothes as the models?
I’m really into watching fashion show on TV especially
Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. I love seeing the models
with a gorgeous dress moving on the stage. They look
very beautiful. But I think I’m not suitable to wear the
same clothes as them because of my shape, my body type.
That kind of clothes are designed specially for them.
Do you have your own fashion or follow the crowds?
Well, I dress in what I like and feel comfortable in. The
fashion trends change very frequently these days.
Following fashion trends and the crowds is very
expensive and a waste of money. Moveover, that trendy
clothes may not suit my body, culture and style. I think it
is more important to feel comfortable and confident in
what we wear.
Could you date someone who was a terrible sense of
fashion?
Of course, no! I want my boyfriend will have a good
sense of fashion or at least he should wear classy clothes.
I will feel embarrassed when hang out with my boyfriend
if he has a terrible style.
What area of fashion interests you most-clothes, hair,
cosmetics, shoes, accessories, etc?
I think it’s cosmetics. I can wear casual clothes but I can
apply bare face when going out. I bought lots of lipsticks
from high-end brand name such as Dior, Gucci, Nars, etc,
… I also bought something else as eye shadow, mascara,
eyeliner, …
Do you always recycle your clothes or give them to
charity?
I recycled my clothes several times after watching
instructive video on Youtube. But it failed. To tell you the
truth, I always give my old clothes to my relations in my
hometown. But if I have chance, I will give them to
charity by my own.
 Topic 5: BOOK & FILM

Do you often read books or magazines?

Yes, absolutely! A great way to relax to learn something
new is to read a book... I'm so addicted to reading that
sometimes I can't even fall asleep without an hour of
bedtime reading. And I always read magazines when I’m
on the plane
What is your favourite kind of books to read?
I’m a book worm. I read lots of kinds of books such as
horror, detective, science fiction, … but I love romance
most. It makes me believe in beautiful love story and I
feel optimistic
How often do you read books?
When I’m free, I read books everyday. I usually read
before I sleep but other times I am too tired to do so and
just end up climbing onto bed and falling straight to sleep.
Now I’m quite busy because I have to meet deadline and
have some endterm test so I don’t have time to read book
anymore.
Do you have any e-books?
To tell you the truth, I prefer paper-book to e-books.
Although ebooks are economical and convenient, it still
causes some problems: eye strain, distractions by
advertisement. I have downloaded some ebooks before
but I can’t finish it because I felt sleepy when I used my
mobile phone for a long time.
What books did you read as a child?
Once when I was 10 years old my mother bought me a
book called Black beauty written by Anna Sewell. Black
beauty is a book based on the life of a horse and how
horses were treated at the past. I read it several time and it
used to be my favourite book when I was a child.
Name some of the famous writers of your country?
To be honest, I barely read book written by Viet Nam
author. But I know some famous author such as Nguyen
Nhat Anh, Nguyen Khang, Phan Y Yen, … I have read
some books written by Nguyen Nhat Anh. He is a talented
writer.
Have you ever thought about writing a book?
Yes, I have written a book. It hasn’t finished because I
felt impatient. I wrote a novel and uploaded to wattpad –
one of the most popular ebook websites. After writing for
a short time, I think I’m bad at writing and I should only
read book instead of writing my own book.
Do u read for pleasure or to get information?
I think both. I read to understand, reading connects me
with the world, I love reading and the best part is that
reading gives me both pleasure and knowledge. I am
almost always overwhelmed by lot of materials, books
and journals I want to read, but sadly I don’t have time for
all of that.
I love music and I love listening to R&B songs. Most of
these songs are very meaningful. Here I would like to talk
about Don't Watch Me Cry by a talented singer Jorja
Smith. It is my favourite song. It was released in 2016 in
the album Lost and Found. The song decribes the sad love
story. There is a couple and they broke up and the man
leaving without saying goodbye. And then the woman
cried a lot but she didn’t want her lover know. It very sad
and touch my heart. I heard this song about two years ago
and since then it has become my favourite song. Actually,
Jorja Smith is my favourite singer. She is a multifaceted
personality. She is a singer, song-writer. She writes the
lyrics of her songs herself. When I go out anywhere
togethers I play her songs through my airpod
 Topic 6: HOLIDAYS
Do you like to travel?
Definitely yes, everyone enjoys travelling and I am no
exception. When I am free, I like to travel to different
places with my friends. Through travelling, I can discover
a new land, meet up with new friends or different people,
experience another culture.
What kind of places have you visited in your life?
I prefer to visit the places which elevate my mood and
energize me. I have been to some of the most beautiful
beaches and lakes in my country. These places bring me
closer to nature.
What’s the best place you’ve ever visited?
Well, all the places I have visited are extremely beautiful
and best of their kind. But, the Quy Nhon beach is the
most beautiful place I have ever visited. That is a lovely
little beach of white sand, bookended by rocky bluffs. The
food is very cheap and fresh. From floating restaurants in
beautiful bays to bustling eateries on city seafronts, they
are all fabulous places to dine.
How easy is it to travel in your country?
We have a good number of public transportations
including trains, buses and plane and I would say
someone can travel in my country very easily. Major
cities in my country have airports and train station.
Moreover, someone can drive her/his own car or ride their
motobike to commute from one area to another smoothly.
Are there any parts of your country that are difficult to
travel to?
Do you like to travel on your own or with your family?
I prefer travelling with my family to travelling
independently because I see this is an ideal way to bond
with my family members. Besides, I really enjoy spending
the whole day on talking to others when travelling.
Do you like visit popular places or less-known places?
It depends. I definitely try to avoid over-touristed places
when pre-Covid. You’ll never catch me in the popular
place. For example, when I was in Quang Ninh. I avoided
Ha Long, which is a huge tourist magnet. I went to Cai
Chien island. But sometimes I want to follow the
crowded. I went to a vibrant city such as HCM city.
Do you prefer short trips or long trips?
To be honest, I think few days is enough for a trip. A lot
of time on the road tends to transform the trip into
something boring since I tend to get tired with the amount
of time outside home. Long-term trips might represent
stay away from the comfortable of my homes and also
make me stay away from daily activities: go to the gym,
play sports or hang out with close friends.

Topic 7: WORK
When you were a child, what job did you want to do
when you grew up?
When I was a kid, I've dreamed to be an accountant
because my aunt is an accountant and she earned lots of
money. And now I still want to pursue my dream. That's
why I took "Accounting major" in college.
What influence your choice of job?
Jobs suiting the current trends are more preferable than
the others. Selecting a job that satisfies the need of the
people is very important. And I think other factor may be
salary.
Which job do you think are more popular than others
why?
It depends on where people live. In the rural, the most
popular job is farmer. For the people who live near
industry and factory, they often choose worker career. In
the city, there are more job to choose but I think the most
popular is civil servant.
What responsibilities do you have at work?
Im still a student and I havent had a job yet but I think my
responsibilities when I work as an accountant are
understanding and documenting the requirements of my
boss, finish my work before deadline.
If you had the chance, would you change your job? Do
you plan to continue with your job in the future?

Topic 8: FOOD

What’s your favourite food?

Well, I would say that I’m not a picky eater and I can eat
like the whole universe. But if i have to choose, I will eat
roast beef, grilled chicken or pork chops. I love meat.
Have your always liked the same food?
Is there any food you dislike?
I don't like food with a lot of salt or fat in it. And some
vegetable like tomato, carrot although they good for our
health. I hate them. They are awful. I try to avoid meals
that might contain these products…
What is the most common meal in your country?
Do you have a healthy diet?
I can’t speak exactly. I try to eat good food such as
vegetable and fruit and try not to eat unhealthy snacks.
But sometimes I don’t have time to cook by my own so I
eat fastfood and the food which is cook already in the
supermarket.
What do you think of fast food?
Do you enjoy cooking?
Not really, to be honest. Most of the time I eat ready
meals and take-aways, that’s one of the reasons I love
visiting my mum because I can always enjoy lovely
home-cooked food.
What type of thing you can cook?
Do you prefer having meal at home or eating out?

Topic 9: SPORT

What is your favourite sport?

Actually, im quite lazy and I prefer staying indoor and in
air-conditioned place to playing sport, But I really into
going swimming. I always buy monthly swimming pool
ticker in the summer to go swimming whenever I want.
Moreover, my family will book in advance a trip to
somewwhere have beach annually so I can go swimming
at the beach.
Do you often watch sport on TV?
I barely watch sport on TV. But once time, when Viet
Nam football club joined the AFF Cup in 2018, I watched
it because of following the trend. I prefer watching movie
to watching sport.
Did you play sport as a child?
Yes. I went swimming. I have swum since I was 6.
Honestly, it took about 2 months for me to learn how to
swim. And now swimming is still my favourite sport.
Do people in your country prefer outdoor sport or those
indoor?
It depends on the weather. In summer, people prefer
outdoor activivites. They go out and do sport. But in
winter, the weather become colder, people tend to stay
indoor to keep their body warm.
Why do some people like walking?
Do you think walking is a sport?
Do sport always involve intensive training?
Are boys and girl good at the same sports?
Boys in average are the stronger sex. To be honest, in
terms of females I believe they are more prone to being
flexible. So, it depends on which sports given.
What are the advantages of doing regular exercises?
There is a number of benefits if you do exercises
regularly. First of all, as everyone knows, it helps people
to control weight. If you engage in physical activities,
your calories are burnt. And the more intense the activity
is, the more calories you burn. Another advantage I want
to mention is that exercise combats health conditions and
diseases. Doing exercise regularly is a way to prevent
heart disease, stroke, depression, a number types of
cancer, improve skeletal system, …. Besides, it improves
your mood and promotes better sleep. If you feel stressed
about something, do some work out or simple exercises,
your stress can be relieved and disappear. Regular
exercises help you fall asleep faster and deepen your
sleep. But remember not to do exercise before bedtime,
do it early in the morning or sometime during the day.
Last but not least, joining physical activities with your
best friends are really funny. It gives you a chance to
make new friends, engage in outdoor activities or just
promote your relationships. In conclusion, I suggest that
you do exercises regularly due to its huge benefits.
I'm going to talk about my mother becausess he has been
a major influence in my life.
My mother was always a good role model for me as I was
growing up. She's hard-working, patient and
understanding; she's also got a good sense of humour and
seems to get on well with everybody. Hopefully I've
inherited some of these traits.
I admire my mother because I think she brought me and
my brother up well; she was quite strict but always fair,
and she has always been someone I can turn to for advice.
I think my mother set a good example by working hard
and having a positive outlook on life. I remember that she
used to leave for work early and come home quite late,
but she always made time for me and my brother.

Last year, I went to Ninh Thuan with my family in

summer vacation after finish one of the most important
test in my life - national university exam. And, you know,
summer won’t be complete without sun tan and beach
snapshots. Therefore, my destination was a seaside city
and Vinh Hy bay is my ideal place. I have heard about
this place a long time ago. My friend highly
recommended this place after her trip there. It is known
for natural beauty and delicious fresh seafood at an
affordable price. It’s only a 2-hour fly by plance from HN
to the bay. One reason I choose this place is that it’s
an awesome island. It won’t be crowded with tourists and
the food here won’t be overpriced. Unlike other beaches
which offer a variety of water sports like canoeing, scuba-
diving, water-skiing and skydiving, there will not be
many activities to do in Vinh Hy bay apart from sun-
bathing and eating seafood. But this is going be a family
time, and to me, spending time together is already
enough.
The trip to Vinh Hy bay Ninh Thuan really was the
holiday of a lifetime. We had a lot of fun and got to see a
lot of spectacular scenery. We definitely enjoyed it and
we will definitely go there again if we have a chance.

Chemistry has been one of my favourite subjects since I

was at school and was first introduced to this subject
when I was in the grade 8. I was lucky enough to have the
best teacher who taught me chemistry as she always had a
manner of make it interesting. She never taught it like a
normal subject but made it exciting by relating it to
current situations and gave examples to explain the
theory.
I had never thought that economics could be so interesting
and invigorating and that is how the lessons used to be in
school. We always had interactive classes where we were
not only supposed to listen to the teacher but also put up
questions and discuss them at length. No other subject
was like this one as the others were more theoretical and
based on certain principles. But economics was and still is
a subject where one has to think out of the box and relate
it to what happens in our day to day lives and all around
us.
One thing I can say is that I extremly enjoyed the subject
in my school. And I chose it to be my subject to have a
university national exam and I got 9 mark.

One of the memorable wedding ceremonies that I

attended and enjoyed was the wedding party of my aunt.
It was in the year 2017 and I was 15 years old at that time.
I can recall that it was mid-summer and I took 4-day-
leave from my secondary school to attend the program.
My aunt got married and she was the sister of my mother.
She was the youngest and she was 24 years old when she
got married to a teacher. I was at the wedding from the
beginning, shopping till the departure of the bride to her
father-in-law's house. The whole house was decorated, we
celebrated a ceremony 3 days long, lots of relatives and
neighbours came to congratulate the bride and they
brought some gifts for her as well. The host prepared
several delicious dishes and sweets and everyone wore
new and traditional dresses. Everyone enjoyed, sang and
danced, the whole program was recorded and everyone
cried when the bride left the house.
Yes, that was a typical wedding that followed the general
traditions and customs. We mostly followed the customs
and thoroughly enjoyed the whole wedding program.
I never really needed to worry about my health or diet in
the past because I have remained a reasonably healthy
person for the most part of my life except suffering from
some occasional flue and fever.
I will never forget the time when I was in hospital. It
happened nearly 5 years ago when I was at secondary
school. I suffered a serious disease before I graduated
from high school and took college entrance exam . At that
time, I was very hopeless and didn't know what would
occur. t took me one month to be in hospital, so I had to
revise my lessons by myself on the bed in the hospital.
Luckily, i passed my two important exams. I think it's really
hard time in my life. After that, I felt that I had become
more energetic than before as I felt much better and
confident about myself as far as my look and shape were
concerned.
