fired generation surged in response to a 7.5% year-over-year increase in power
demand through the first half of 2021 and soaring natural gas prices,” he said.
He also mentioned that API-2 spot prices recently hit a 13-year high of $131/
metric ton. That’s the benchmark for coal imported into northwestern Europe.

reduce their costs while providing high-quality prod-
ucts and services, using many of our existing processes,
machinery capabilities and standards.”

remanufacturing and overhauling engines, we are able
to extend their useful life while also bringing them to
the latest emissions standards. This benefits our cus-

Since its opening in fall 2010, the mtu Aiken Plant
has been the site of continuous innovation, invest-
ment and expansion. What began with the production
of Series 2000 and Series 4000 engines has grown to in-
clude the assembly of military engines, the machining
of parts, and even the production of energy through its
solar field and microgrid. With an on-site research and
development center and now a new Remanufacturing
and Overhaul Center, the mtu Aiken Plant covers the full

The length tolerance between each
rope pair was ± 0.13% (± 1 in.). These
ropes are stranded synthetic working
ropes made of Twaron aramid fiber
with braided polyester fiber jackets.
“We first lowered the dragline
boom to the ground and attached the
ropes,” Thompson said. “After raising
the boom, the ropes were tensioned
to remove any stretch, and the drag-
line moved under the powerlines.
