If possible, intermediate lengths are to be avoided.
Lengths above 200 mm are to be graded in 20 mm steps.
‘The commercially lengths lie between the stepped lines.
2. Material
Type C: St = 9 SMnPb 28 K according to DIN 1651
Type D: St = Stool of tensile strength of at least 600 N/mm? hardened to 60 + 2 HRC
Other materials as agreed,
3. Finish
Permissible deviations for dimensions without tolerance indication: C medium DIN 7168
4 Requirements
DIN 267 Part 1 applies to general requirements
5 Testing
5.1. Testing for dimensional accuracy and finish
‘The provisions of DIN 267 Part 5 apply as appropriate to the testing for dimensional accuracy and
to the main and secondary features; Table 3 applies to the acceptable quality level

5.2. Testing of mechanical properties and materials
‘The provisions of DIN 267 Part § apply as appropriate to the testing of mechanical properties and materials, In cases of
doubt, the Brinell or Rockwell hardness tast is decisive.
Note : Screws of a property class of at least 10.9 are required to loosen the paralle! pins. In the case of parallel pins of
4a length exceeding 6 x dy, there is, even with property class 10.9, a risk that the loosening forces to be exerted will
‘exceed the yield point of this property class.DIN 7979 Page 3
Explanations
‘As part of the work of Technical Committee ISO/TC 2, ISO Standards and draft
‘Standards for parallel pins and taper pins have been drawn up which necessitated
general revision of existing DIN Standards, The drafts
DIN 7979 Part 1 Parallel pins with the internal thread, hardened and
DIN 7979 Part 2 Parallel pins with internal thread, unhardened
were published as long ago as September 1970.
Written comments on these drafts and further ISO work led to a revision of the drafts
involving amendments which were so extensive that a further draft Standard was published
in October 1973, combining the two Parts into one.
As compared with the June 1963 issue of DIN 7979, the present new Issue contains the
following alterations and additions:
© The previous Types A and B are replaced by
Type C unhardened and
Type D hardened,
which differ in the shape of the dog at the inserted end. For both types, tolerance
zone m6 applies to the nominal diameter, but other tolerance zones are permissible
for Type D.
'* Provision is no longer made for a version with a through core-hole.
‘The tolerance zones k6 and h8 are no longer listed, as they are seldom required.
© In conformity with ISO Standards on pins, the nominal diameters 13 and 32 have
been omitted,
© The steps for nominal lengths exceeding 100 mm have been brought closer together;
the nominal length 18has been omitted. The tolerance on length has been altered to js15.
© In conformity with the new version of DIN 76 Part 1, the holes for the internal
thread have also been newly specified.
© A flattening is also permissible as an optional alternative to the existing longitudinal
groove.
© The details of materials have been altered,
© Detailed technical conditions of delivery based on DIN 267 Part § have been
incorporated
Finally, reference is made to the fact that somewhat different steps for the lengths
‘are being sought in the ISO product Standards on pins which are in course of
Droparation. These steps have not, as yet, been adopted in the present Standard
because ISO work on the product Standards is net yet concluded.
‘© The designation has been amended to conform to DIN 820 Part 27,
