Pressure relief vaives within the scope of ASME Code Section 1, Power Boilers, are not covered by this specification An asterisk (*) indicates that additional information is provided by ESSO in an addendum to this specification, A pound sign (#) indicates that ESSO review/approval is required before design is finalized or equipment is purchased. ‘SUMMARY OF ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. Table 1 lists the specifications, codes and standards which shall be used with this specification. The equipment and materials used shall conform to the latest editions, revisions and addenda of the codes, standards and regulations listed in Table 1 TABLE 1 ESSO Chad Specifi ECS324 — Pressure Relieving Systems ECS 3-16-1 Flanges, Gaskets, Bolting and Fittings ECS 18-1-1 Permissible Substitutes for USA Specification Materials ECS 18-6-1 Impact Requirement for Materials ECS 19-1-1 Paint and Protective Coatings ECS 20-1-1__ Inspection of Equipment and Materials ‘API Standards 526 Flanged Steel Safety Relief Valves 827 ‘Commercial Seat Tightness of Safety Relief Valves with Metal-to- Metal Seats ASMEIANSI Codes and Standards Section Vill Pressure Vessels, Division 1 Section Vill Pressure Vessels, Altemative Rules, Division 2 B24 Pipe Threads (Except Dryseal) B165 Steel Pipe Flanges and Flanged Fittings SSO EXPLORATIONS eee eee PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE ECS 3-15-1 Page 3 of 6 SPECIFICATION Revi | Oct. 1995 2.3. The vendor shall comply with the requirements of the governing authorities of the country where the equipment is to be installed 24 — Each pressure relief valve shall have an instrument data sheet based upon ISA $20.53, 2.5 Each pressure relief valve shall have a sizing calculation sheet based upon an industry standard sizing program. DESIGN 3.1 All valves, except thermal relief valves, shall be spring loaded, high lift, high capacity type, with @ top guided disc. Valves in service other than steam, hot water and air shall not be provided with a lifting device. All valves shall be provided with pressure tight bonnets except bellows type valves. Inlet connections NPS 1-1/2 or larger shall be flanged. Inlet connections NPS 1 may be flanged or threaded: those smaller shall be threaded. Outlet connections shall normally be flanged except the outlet shall be threaded when the inlet is threaded 3.2 Valve accessories shall be as follows: a. Caps shall be screwed rather than bolted, b. Lifting levers shall not be provided except for air, hot water and steam services, ©. Gags are not permitted d. Aug screen vent shall be used on bellows type valves. 3.3. Flanged valves shall have full nozzles arranged so that the nozzles and the parts comprising the disc are the only parts exposed to inlet pressure or to the corrosive action of the fluid when the valve is closed. 3.4 — Body flanges accommodating a full nozzle may be modified to accommodate the nozzle except that the thickness shall be not less than ANSI B16.5 minimum thickness. 3.5 Body flanges attached by welding shall be completely radiographed, 3.6 Thermal relief vaives specified with threaded ends shall have internal taper threads. 3.7 Valve dimensions shall be per API 526. 3.8 Flange rating and type of facing will be specified. Flange facing finish shall be per ANSI BIES5, MATERIALS 4.1 The materials for the valve body, bonnet and cap shall be specified and shall normally be of a specification equivalent to that of the inlet piping materials. Consideration shall be given to other materials for special cases such as auto-refrigeration, etc. 42 Materials of other components shall be manufacturer's standards unless otherwise specified on the Instrumentation Data Sheet. ESSO EXPLORATIONS See reese peuereeecteee PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE ECS 3-45-4 SPECIFICATION Rev.1 | Oct. 1995, 43 Consideration shall be given to protecting the springs of valves in corrosive service with coatings such as aluminizing, nickel plating, lacquer, etc. 4.4 Materials shall be as per Table 2 unless otherwise specified by ESSO: TABLE 2 VALVE COMPONENTS | MATERIAL OR MATERIAL STANDARD. REMARKS. Body, Bonnet Cap | par. 3.0.1 - Disc and Nozzle | High corrosion resistant Chromium-Nickel | Ferritic Steels not | alloy steels or Nickel-Chromium alloys | acceptable Spring API 526 - | Stem a, Wrought 13 Cr if body is ferritic b. 10 Cr Ni Steel if body is austentic Note: 1. Use API526 materials where par. 3.0.1 permits their use. IDENTIFICATION 5.1 Marking of springs 3 mm (0.125 in.) wire diameter and larger shall be with symbols which will identify the manufacturer, pressure-temperature range, material and size. For springs less than 3 mm (0.125 in.) wire diameter, the designation shall be shown on a metal tag 5.2 Valves which do not bear the ASME Code marking shall be calibrated and the capacity demonstrated in the manner prescribed by ASME Code Section Vill. If test certification show the valve coefficient (coefficient of discharge Ko) to be less than 0.95, vendors proposals for that particular valve design shall be submitted to purchaser for verification of valve sizes. 5.3 Valves not marked but which are identical with design which have been previously certified and marked per ASME Code Section Vil, shall be considered acceptable without further qualifying test. Vendors certification to this etfect shall be furnished for ESSO approval INSPECTION AND TESTING 6.1 Components of pressure relief valves shall be hydrostatically tested before assembly as given in Table 3. 6.2 Valves shall be popped pneumatically to check the set pressure. Certificate of verification shall be provided to ESSO. SSO EXPLORATION Peace eena PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE ECS 3-15-1 SPECIFICATION Rev.1 Oct. 1995 63 7.4 72 73 74 Pressure Relief valves shall be shop tested by ESSO for accuracy of set pressure not more than 60 days prior to start up of the unit. PREPARATION FOR SHIPMENT Machined or threaded exterior surfaces shall be protected from corrosion during shipment and subsequent storage by coating with rust preventative of a type: a. to provide protection during outdoor storage for a period of twelve months exposed to @ normal industrial environment, and b. tobe removable with mineral spirits or any standard solvent. Valves with flanged ends shall have the flanges protected over the entire gasket surface with metal 3.40 mm (0.134 in.) minimum thickness, hardboard or solid wood flange protectors securely attached to the valve. Valves with threaded ends shall have the ends protected with metal or plastic caps securely affixed. Valves shall be supplied with wired metal tags with the PSV-number designation shown in the piping classification sheets and specified on the purchase order. nweuvausiveess ts ESSO EXPLORATION PRODUCTION CHAD ING. 4.4 ESSO to advise any additional materials required.
