In college, wider variety of courses awaits you to serve as choices for us to be ready in
the future. College courses provide students a great variety of learning opportunities. However,
choosing a particular courses much depends on the student’s motivation. Therefore, most
students focus on the courses relevant to their future professions. Some says that some courses
were the same to one another, but we doesn't know is that those courses have their own
distinction that only us or those who take will prove it.
Many students find difficult choosing what course to take in college. Because it is our
future that depends on it and the decision that we will make would determine what life we will
have in the future. It is considered as the first step in our life as an independent person and as
well as for our success. It is said that we should be careful in choosing a course because when
you have started on something there is no turning back. You can shift to another course but lots
of thing will be wasted: your effort, money and time. So it is advised that from the start you
should pick what you really desire and you should make up your mind that this is the course for
you and will lead you to success.
Choosing a course is really a hard decision to make.Especially that some of the courses
are pretty much the same from the other one, example of this is between architecture and civil
engineering. Confusion between architecture and civil engineering never fades. When we talk
about industry, architecture and civil engineering are both necessary part of the construction and
are vital to the creation of beautiful yet practical and super strong structures that will be tested as
time passes. These two disciplines or programs are quite similar in nature and offers job
opportunities in the same industry, and, therefore considered as one of the reasons why students
often get confused when it comes to choosing the right discipline
Despite of the similarities, there are many subtle and key differences that set these two
disciplines apart. From the definition itself, scope of the field, the field of operation, as well as
how they are different from one another in terms of earnings.
First, let's define what architecture and civil engineering is. Civil engineering involves
the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, like
roads, bridges, canals, dams, and buildings. In other words, civil engineers deal with the different
structural elements of buildings in terms of practicality. Also they are one who are in charge in
deciding the materials to be used, load withstanding capacity of the structure and long time
maintenance. While architecture, it is a creative field that deals with the art and science of
designing and constructing buildings and other structure for human use and shelter. Architects
work with different construction companies as a designer. The primary responsibility of an
architect is to understand the requirements of the client and translate that into a practical,
functional and aesthetically pleasing design.
Stated above, civil engineers have a wider scope of work and a broader field of
operations compared to architects. There are some examples of civil engineering works across
the country in both governmental as well as private organizations. In terms of employment
opportunities, both private and government bodies are hiring fresh civil engineers for different
roles. Aside from the governmental organizational works civil engineers can also work in a
private organization wherein they can set up their own engineering firm. There is also great
demand for civil engineers in teaching profession as well with leading academic institutes
looking for professors in this discipline. Civil engineers also responsible in inspecting, planning
and executing the architectural designs for a building or structure.
One of the key reasons behind choosing professional academic disciplines like civil

engineering or architecture is to acquire the benefits o excellent employment prospects and
salary that the two disciplines offer.
To summarize, it is said that architecture deals with the design of building or structures
with prime focus upon the functionality and aesthetics. Architects deal with the look, feel and
functionality of designs, while keeping in mind the basic structural elements of the building in
mind. One of the key reasons behind choosing professional academic disciplines like civil
engineering or architecture is to reap the benefits of excellent employment prospects and salary.
Therefore, this is the point which becomes a bone of contention for all aspirants, who are
confused while choosing between these two disciplines.
While both civil engineering and architecture are very valuable professional academic
programs, each of them have their own benefits. While architecture deals with design and
aesthetic components, civil engineers deal with structural planning and execution of the
creativity of the architect. Also, in terms of salary and social reputation both the programme
commands similar remuneration and respect.
Architects and civil engineers work in tandem, and, therefore, some of their work
overlaps to an extent. However, when it comes to the field of operations, civil engineers have a
development of construction projects which require creative presentation. On the other hand, any
kind of construction work or structural engineering work is undertaken by civil engineers.
Therefore, the scope of civil engineering can also involve public projects such as bridges,
railways, buildings, dams, and roads. Generally, such projects do not require any aesthetic
considerations and are purely designed from practicality perspective keeping structural integrity
as its prime focus.
Many would say that they haven’t chosen yet or they were not sure about the course they
want to pursue. Some might have chosen before and decided what to take but in the end they
want to change it because they weren’t sure or still confused. And the wide range of choices of
college courses made it more difficult to choose. Some choose their careers because it is quite
similar from one another and they think that if they take it, the benefits it brings and the offers
are also the same. In some instances, just like when it comes to choosing civil engineering or
architecture, it all boils down to your personal interest in the subject at hand. Differences doesn't
matter in choosing a course because I believed that those differences makes them unique from
one another. Without those differences, I don't think that one course will stand out from one
another.
