Experiment 7: Temperature and Oxygen Levels at Indoors and Outdoors Laboratory Report

This experiment measured oxygen levels and temperature in indoor and outdoor locations. Oxygen and temperature were recorded over 5 minutes at locations including in front of a statue outdoors, another outdoor area without trees, and indoor areas on the 3rd floor of a building that was both air conditioned and not. The results showed that average oxygen levels varied inversely with average temperature between locations, supporting the ideal gas law. The objective of correlating temperature and oxygen amounts in different places was achieved.

III. Methodology
The instruments that were used in
this experiment were: Vernier oxygen gas
sensor, temperature probe and Vernier
LabQuest. Oxygen (O2) and temperature
was collected at indoor and outdoor places
around main building of UST.

was done using Vernier Labquest. The
relationship of oxygen levels and
temperature of indoor and outdoor places
was observed and compared. Data collected
was then correlated and discussed in the
results and discussion.

The results shows no clear relation

correlation of O2 levels from temperature,
as temperature fluctuates from 30 C to 24 C
depending on the place and O2 levels varies
from .89 to.75 ppt. But average of
temperature and O2 levels shows that higher
O2 ppt were read when the temperature is
higher, and vice versa. This could be
correlated in the ideal gas law which could
be interpreted as the volume-mole ratio of a
gas is proportional to the temperature of the
gas multiplied by the ideal gas constant and
divided by the pressure of the gas. It shows
that the amount of oxygen is inversely
proportional to the temperature.
The experimenter suggest that in
order to have better correlation of data, the
pressure must also be measured and taken
into consideration as significant wind
pressure could affect the value of O2 levels
and the temperature itself.
