Fire Pump Room Requirement
Firefighting pump room is the most important room since it’s the room contain the
most important equipment protecting the building in case of fire and this
equipment needs an accessible location for easy maintenance and operation.
General Requirements:
1. Pump room location shall be coordinated with the fire departments. Access
shall be as per NFPA 20 Paragraph 4.12.2.1( Under ramps ,Under stairs
locations are not preferable)
2. Minimum accessible dimensions for maintenance all around the equipment's
as per NFPA20 (2013) Paragraph 4.12.1.1.6 (Room heights room
dimensions shall be enough to accommodate the pumps).
3. Fire rated doors and walls as per NFPA20 table 4.12.1.1.2
4. Proper lighting and emergency lighting according to NFPA 101
5. Proper ventilation including air supply and up to 10 air change /hour exhaust
6. Water taps for cleaning and washing during maintenance.
7. Power supply socket for maintenance and cleaning equipment's.
8. Sufficient drain outlet nearby fire pumps controllers and pumps engines
(gutter drain connected to nearby drain point).
9. Area radio coverage as per NFPA 5000 Paragraph F3.2.1.
10.Sprinkler system fire protection in accordance to NFPA13 and to be
considered as Extra hazard group 2 space.
