10Abstract

11For full guidelines please refer to Author Guidelines

12As a primary goal, the abstract should render the general significance and conceptual advance of the
13work clearly accessible to a broad readership. References should not be cited in the abstract. Leave
14the Abstract empty if your article does not require one, please see the Summary Table for full details.

151 Introduction

16For Original Research Articles, Clinical Trial Articles, and Technology Reports the introduction
17should be succinct, with no subheadings. For Case Reports the Introduction should include
18symptoms at presentation, physical exams and lab results.

192 Article types

20For requirements for a specific article type please refer to the Article Types on any Frontiers journal
21page. Please also refer to Author Guidelines for further information on how to organize your
22manuscript in the required sections or their equivalents for your field1.

233 Manuscript Formatting

243.1 Headings

25You may insert up to 5 heading levels into your manuscript as can be seen in “Styles” tab of this
26template. These formatting styles are meant as a guide, as long as the heading levels are clear,

32Frontiers requires figures to be submitted individually, in the same order as they are referred to in the
33manuscript. Figures will then be automatically embedded at the bottom of the submitted manuscript.
34Kindly ensure that each table and figure is mentioned in the text and in numerical order. Figures must
35be of sufficient resolution for publication (see here for examples and minimum requirements).
36Figures which are not according to the guidelines will cause substantial delay during the production
37process. Figure legends should be placed at the end of the manuscript. Please see here for full Figure

44the authors to acquire the licenses, to follow any citation instructions requested by third-party rights
45holders, and cover any supplementary charges.

463.4 Tables

47Tables should be inserted at the end of the manuscript. Tables must be provided in an editable format
48e.g., Word, Excel. Tables provided as jpeg/tiff files will not be accepted. Please note that very large
49tables (covering several pages) cannot be included in the final PDF for reasons of space. These
50tables will be published as Supplementary Material on the online article page at the time of
51acceptance. The author will be notified during the typesetting of the final article if this is the
52case.
