Preface of Event

16th September is celebrated as World Ozone Day to create awareness among

people regarding importance of the ozone layer in the atmosphere. With this idea
keep in mind the ABACUS Club of Department of MCA , K K Wagh Institute of
Engineering Education and Research, Nashik has organized Social Awareness
Program: Poster Competition on World Ozone Day on 16th September 2015.

This competition was organized for First year MCA students. Total 15 posters have
been displayed by participants.

The event started with address by Head of MCA department Prof. Vandana C.
Bagal. She stressed on importance of ozone layer in the stratosphere where it
forms a protective layer that shields us from harmful ultraviolet rays. Human
activity has depleted this ozone layer and caused "holes" in ozone layer. She
stressed on saving the ozone layer and said one should take preventive measures
for saving the environment, stop using the products which are harmful for the
environment , if our environment is safe, only then we are safe. Safe environment
will lead to safer lives.

After Prof. Vandana Bagal’s speech, felicitation of judge, Prof. Pallavi More from
P.V.G College Nashik was performed. A video clip showing “Ozone Awareness” is
played.

Prof. Pallavi More has delivered speech on importance of Ozone in environment.

She explained how Ozone gas protects everything living on the Earth from harmful
ultraviolet (UV) rays from the Sun. Further she extended without the layer of
ozone in the atmosphere, it would be very difficult for anything to survive on the
surface and plants cannot live and grow in heavy ultraviolet radiation, nor can the
plankton that serve as food for most of the ocean life. The ozone layer acts as a
shield to absorb the UV rays, and keep them from doing damage at the Earth's
surface.
At the end the judge inaugurated the poster competition.

Students have made beautiful posters representing the importance of the ozone
layer in the atmosphere and how it had been damaged over decades mainly due to
human activities.

They also elucidated the precautions that could be taken to protect the ozone
layer by countries, organizations and individuals.

They emphasized the need to impart knowledge and spread awareness about the
far reaching consequences of the depletion of ozone in the atmosphere and how, by
being an ozone friendly consumer, every individual could contribute to the
replenishment of ozone to protect planet earth from the ill-effects of global
warming and related phenomena, caused mainly by the depletion of the thinning of
the ozone layer over the poles.

All the students of second year and third year students with faculty members of
MCA department have visited the poster and encourage the first year students for
their activity. First year students nicely explained the thought behind each poster
and all the students and faculty members ensured to follow those thoughts for
preventing the ozone layer.

Finally Prof. Pallavi More declared the winners for the competition.
