since the third unit went into circuit in December
1984. The tragedy is that many pine trees are now
being cut down because they have dried up. These
are within a radius of three to four kilometres from
the plant. There is yet another pine tree forest
twelve kilometres away and even this one, too,
shows signs of having been seriously affected by the
ever-increasing menace from the poisonous gases
emitted daily over the region. It was duly
emphasized by several speakers that, if the
poisonous gases cannot be brought under control,
eventually the flora and fauna in the region will be
completely destroyed and this whole area will look
