Lapu-Lapu Reaction Paper
Lapu-Lapu Reaction Paper
In this movie, the bravery of Lapu-Lapu was undeniably admirable. Throughout the film, he imparted
lessons to his people, and among these, what struck me the most was his message regarding how
and why women should be respected. Also, this movie did not just feature the bravery of Lapu-Lapu
but also his comrades’. I liked the faith they had in Lapu-Lapu, and their eagerness to fight alongside
him, ready to sacrifice their lives for their land and freedom.
What I liked the least was the part where Raja Humabon gave up easily to the Spaniards after gaining
information that these foreigners were strong. Furthermore, he used this alliance for his selfish gain,
leading the Spaniards to attack the island of Mactan. In my perspective, the real enemy in this movie
was Raja Humabon, a fellow Filipino. I think this problem is something very evident even up to this day.
Most of our rulers are blinded by their greed for power and money, thus losing sight of the problem
beforehand causing the citizens, especially the poor, to suffer.
For me, the best part was when Lapu-Lapu stood his ground to fight and protect the island even after
hearing the accounts of people who witnessed how strong the Spaniards were. Furthermore, despite
seeing their armors and weapons personally, he still rejected the Spaniards’ offer face to face.
The movie definitely serves as an inspiration for Filipinos to fight for their country, fellow countrymen,
and their freedom. The most important message from this movie was from Lapu-Lapu wherein he
stated “Ang kalayaan ang siyang buhay,” and urged his people to fight. We, as Filipinos, should not
allow other people, may it be foreigners or one of our own, to limit our right to express, speak, act,
think, or even live. We must fight until the end for our freedom, the freedom of our fellow Filipinos, and
the freedom of our home country.
This movie is recommended for all Filipinos out there for each and everyone to rediscover their roots
and learn a part of our history. I would specifically recommend this to my fellow students, especially
those studying history, to those professors who are teaching subjects that may relate to Philippine
history, and the aspiring historians out there for further knowledge about our hero, Lapu-Lapu.
