Chapter 1
Function Description
To ensure reliable system operation, the NetNumen U31 server should perform data
backup and deletion tasks periodically to back up important data and release storage
space on the server. This procedure describes how to manage automatic data backup
and deletion task.
For the task management of the NetNumen U31 system, the common task includes:
 To back up and delete log data, performance data, and alarm data periodically to
avoid massive dump of data in the database.
 To back up tasks in the system periodically, including database structure backup, file
backup, and basic data backup.
 To clear some dynamic files periodically in accordance with the directory and the
clear settings to ensure that the hardware space of the server is normal.
 To confirm historical alarms a specified days before.
 To execute a batch of man–machine commands periodically.

Chapter 2
Setting the Log Data
Deletion and Backup
Task
Users can set the type and threshold for backup log data, and delete backup log data.
When the threshold monitoring function is enabled and the number of logs exceeds the
set threshold, the system generates a corresponding alarm, and clears the log data to
up to below 20% of the threshold. For example, if the lowest threshold is 60% (or 10000
records), the total size will be 48% (or 8000 records) after the cleanup. After the log data
is cleaned successfully, the alarm information will be restored automatically.

Steps

1. In the main window of the client, select Maintenance > Task Management > Show
Timing Task. The Task Management window is displayed.

2. Select Common Task > Historical Data Archiving > Log Data Backup and
Deletion Task from the left pane. The backup description and the period description
are displayed in the right pane, see Figure 2-1.

Chapter 3
Viewing the Basic Data
Backup Log
The NetNumen U31 backs up all basic data of the system to the database every
day. The basic data does not include the table structure information, history alarms,
notifications, logs, and original performance data. Such history data is backed up
independently. You can view the log of the basic data backup operation, refer to 2
Setting the Log Data Deletion and Backup Task.
When basic data needs to be restored, you can use the offline restore tool under the \
ums-server\utils\usf-backup directory.

Steps

1. In the main window of the client, select Maintenance > Task Management > Show
Timing Task. The Task Management window is displayed.

2. In the left pane of the Task Management window, select Common Task >
Configuration Data Backup > Backup Basic Data. The corresponding task
description, backup path, and period description are displayed in the right pane, see
Figure 3-1.

Chapter 4
Modifying a Directory
Monitoring Task
A directory monitoring task is used to monitor the file size in a directory. When the total
file size in a monitored directory exceeds the threshold, the system follows specified
rules to delete some files and releases server disk space.
The system deletes unnecessary files from the specified directory once a day to
effectively control the hard disk space. Maintenance personnel can specify the directory
to be monitored, the file type, and the maximum file size allowed in the monitored
directory.
This procedure provides an example for modifying Performance Data Backup
Directory Monitoring and uses the example to describe how to modify directory
monitoring attributes.

Steps

1. In the main window of the client, select Maintenance > Task Management > Show
Timing Task. The Task Management window is displayed.

2. In the left pane, select Common Task > File Clean-up > Directory Monitoring. The
corresponding information is displayed in the right pane, see Figure 4-1.

Chapter 10
Changing the Start
Time for a Task
This procedure describes how to modify the starting time for each task.
There are five types of system tasks in the NetNumen U31 system:
 Historical data archiving task
 Configuration data backup task
 File and database backup task
 File clean-up task
 Alarm background task
To reduce the load of the NetNumen U31 server, above tasks are staggered to be
executed. The maintenance personnel can modify the start time of executing the tasks
of each type based on actual service load manually.
The execution time of tasks is set to be on the hour with tolerance of 10 minutes to
prevent tasks from being executed concurrently.

Steps

1. In the main window of the client, select Maintenance > Task Management > Modify
Task Start Time. The Modify Task Start Time dialog box is displayed, see Figure
10-1.
