INTRODUCTION
As a part of the first semester MSW field practicum the trainee went in the field of rural
development, the Notheast Initiative Development Agency an initiative of TATA TRUSTS
at SAMETI, Mizoram (NEIDA) on dt. 27th September, 2021 for her fieldwork which is
located in Zarawt Mc Donald Hill, Aizawl.
The objectives of this block fieldwork is mainly about to understand the agency settings, their
programmes and functions, exposure to professional environment, skill developed by the
trainee through their intervention.
Introduction and interaction was applied by the trainee in order to build a rapport with the
agency workers and chatting with them. After that the trainee profile the agency with the
help of Dr. James Lalthansanga and then another profiling about one of their functions sports
was also done by the help of Mr. Malsawma.
i. Rapport building:
On 27th September, the trainee start the first day of her block fieldwork in Northeast Initiative
Development Agency the trainee arrived at 10:10am where she started to introduce herself
among the agency staff members with the guidance of Ms. Eni. She continue her work
according to her plan for the day through interacting with the staff member.
Introduction was held among the workers, the agency kindly welcome the trainee along with
the introduction of the agency and the agency coordinator help the trainee to cooperate and
inform about the agency building, surrounding and facilities meanwhile rapport was building
through interating and communicating with the workers and having lunch with them.
The trainee profile the agency with the help of the .. Mr. James through powerpoint
presentation also one of their activity badminton in sport was explained in-depth by the sports
facilitator Mr. Lalmalsawma.
NEIDA is a not-for-profit organisation founded in 2012. NEIDA was promoted by the Tata
Trusts as the nodal agency for the North East Initiative (NEI). It has been seeded by the
trusts’ to provide monitoring and technical support to projects under North East India.
To improve the quality of life and enabling an increase in household incomes through
livelihood enhancements.
Transform and bring about quality change in the lives of resource poor households.

EVALUATION
The trainee gained knowledge about the organization their structure and their programmes
and services and she came to know that this organization is especially satisfactory for the
rural and the athlete for the northeastern people. The different types of their projects are
significant and beneficial for the people who want to develop themselves. The trainee can
fulfill most of her plan without any break up and she developed her skills like communication
skills, recording skills and rapport building skills.

INTRODUCTION
On dt 28th September, 2021 the trainee reached their agency at 10:00am. To begin with
fieldwork the trainee build the rapport by chatting with them and in the fore noon one of the
workers Mr.Freddy present about livelihood and skill promotion. In the afternoon, one of the
sport incharge Mr. Lalthanzama which is also Sports News Editor in Zonet had expound
about the functioning of football in NEIDA.
i. Rapport building.
Rapport was build through interacting and communicating with them and helping in cleaning
the floor and arranging books. The trainee get the information about agency structure and
policy matters with the help of some of the agency workers and some materials given by the
staff like flyers and documents.
Livelihood promotion is about increasing in income from livestock from 3100 households
across 35 villages and increase in income from agriculture from 6200 households across 95
villages.
Skilling is about Certified training course for badminton and football trainers and certified
training course livelihood services providers and Para-Vets.
In community Institution they formatted and adopt of Self Help Groups and Farmers Interest
Group. They also initiate the process of institutionalizing community institution.

Badminton is one of their focus for building an inclusive enabling environment for improving
the quality of life in the North-eastern region of India.

Total of 94 training sessions were conducted across 8 months during the lockdown
period equivalent to more than 188 hrs. of training

Target groups 8-15 years.
The trainee could fulfill most of her objectives by the help of her supervisor. This agency
play a very important role in the development of the youth but during the covid 19 all training
sessions was stalled temporarily and reaching out to students physically was restricted also
student fitness dropped due to absence of physical activities and kids were demotivated and
bored.

INTRODUCTION
On dt. 29 October, 2021 the trainee reached the agency at 10:10am. At first the trainee build a
rapport through that they have a meaningful relationship with the workers. The trainee assists
in their works in the forenoon and having lunch with them. After that one of the workers from
the water and sanitation department Miss Zorinpuii talked about the one of their focus safe
drinking water and sanitation.
i. Rapport building.
The North eastern states have their own unique water supply problems as most of the
habitations are on hill tops and supplying water in the hills has always been a challenge.
Aditionally, due to the topography and shallow soil cover in these states almost all the rain
water is lost as surface runoff leading to low surface water and ground water availability. The
severe water scarcity problem both for domestic and agriculture consumption is one of the
mainconstraints in agriculture and human development of these states. Shortage of water
supply also affects sanitation of communities leading to higher risk of water borne diseases.
NEIDA’s approach to safe drinking water and sanitatiom is aimed at addressing the following
issues:
- Scalling up of point of use water purifiers (PoU) in order to ensure Safe Drinking
Water at Household Level in Rural Areas of Mizoram, Nagaland and Arunachal
Pradesh.
- Multi-stakeholder initiative to Provide Drinking Water Security through Springshed
Management in 100 villages in rural areas of Nagaland.
ii. Poin Of Use (PoU):
- Under safe drinking water through low cost point of use system through low cost
point of use system NEIDA has covered 14 Districts, 293 villages and 11,800
households in Arunachal Pradesh , Nagaland and Mizoram. A total of 26,338 units of
PoU were ordered out of which 11,800 unitshave been distributed to the beneficiaries
across the three states.
- 250 Awareness generation on safe drinking water through PoU system across
Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram and Nagaland were conducted. Promotion and Demand
generation of PoU through various activities like Kiosk activities, hoardings, leaflets,
videos, sponsoring of events prizes with Tata Swach Filters, etc. were undertaken.
- District level workshops were organized across 3 states with partners for discussing
coordination mechanism and smooth implementation of projects activities.
iii. Springshed Mnagement:
- A participatory convergence programme is being implement out for the first time in
Nagaland on springshed development with the Department of Land Resources, Rural
development department and NEIDA as key stakeholders. The project was launched
in July 2018 during a join project launching conference. The technical support
agency of the project are the PSI, Dehradun and ACWADAM, Pune.
- District level orientation meeting of all the participating agencies of the springshed
programme was completed in 9 district to orient district teams about the project and
finalize coordination mechanism among the projects partners.
- In collaboration with PSI and ACWADAM 30 para –hydrogeologists from the land
resource department underwent training on springshed management. The training
include both classroom and practical sessions.
- Community mobilization/sensitization has been carried out in 36 villages. Activities
including surveys, social, hydrogeological and engineering have been completed in 36
selected villages under phase-I. After the experience 40 springs have been finalized
for rejuvenation activities.
EVALUATION
As part of the curriculum system, the trainee successfully completed her plan for the day.
From this fieldwork the trainee get an opportunity to practice and enrich experiences. Also
this agency is excellent for the development of the northeastern people in order to health and
sanitation as well and through this the trainee gained more knowledge about the agency and
its functions.

INTRODUCTION
On dt 30th September, 2021 the trainee went for fieldwork and reached the agency at
10:00am. The trainee inculcate in some of the office work and also one of the agency staff
from MIS department Mr.Roman Boro talked about his part in the agency which is
monitoring and evaluation. After that when the agency supervisors told them to go home they
were disperse from the agency at 3:00pm.

The trainee build a meaningful relationship with the staff member participating in their group
chat and helping in their works. The trainee and the staff were having a good cooperation and
coordination. The workers and the trainee were having a lunch together with sharing their
lunch and chatting. This create a good relationship among the worker and the trainee and had
a great time during the fieldwork.
One of the worker Mr. Roman Boro spared his time for us to expound his part in the agency
which is monitoring and evaluation. His work is about to assess the performance of the
agency performance of the agency projects for the improvement and the future management
of output, outcomes and impact. This provide detailed information on assessed activities and
where improvements can be made.
At the same time, evaluation involves the assessment of the programmes towards the
achievement of the result, milestones and impact of the outcomes based on the use of
performance indicators. It aims at determining whetheror not the intended objectives have
been met.
They monitored and evaluate all the agency’s work which is contributed by different
departments/teams such as rural livelihood, livestock, sports, water sanitation.
EVALUATION
The trainee know more about the agency and it functions which is monitoring and evaluation.
It aims to monitor all the work in NEIDA. It shows that this agency is an organized and well-
structured agency and the contribution of the workers were also quality and satisfactory. The
trainee fulfilled her plan for the day through this the trainee was able to meet, interact,
observeand learn from various people and staffs in the agency. She also gained more
communication skills, recording skills and rapport building skills.

INTRODUCTION
To develop the field education experience and to know more about the agency the trainee
went for fieldwork on 1st October, 2021. Rapport building was done through interacting with
them. After that the trainee was assigned in some of the office work along with her co-trainee
and profile the agency staff’s and their department, apart from that there is no much work
which the trainee can participate. So, the trainee departed from the agency at around 3:20pm.

Rapport building play a vital role in the field of social work practice. The trainee build a
rapport with the agency staffs through chatting with their interest subject, having tea with
them and sharing lunch together. After that the trainee asked one of the staff Mr. Samuel
which is the field director to assign some office work in order to help and build a meaningful
relationship.
The trainee and her co trainee participate in the office work which was given by the field
supervisor Mr. Samuel. The trainee spend most of her time to do the work as the work is
mainly about enter the data of the beneficiaries name, village and their phone numbers. After
that the trainee did the paper work with her co trainee the work is about writing the
beneficiaries name and the profit of the income from the work like piggery and livestock.

EVALUATION
The trainee fulfill most of her objective and she observed that this agency is unique than other
agencies which we had in Mizoram. The facilities, programmes and services are also quiet
excellent and organized. The trainee learned how to interact and communicate with the
professionals and she acquires Social Work skills like communication skills, rapport building
skills, report writing skills.
