Questions:
Give two reasons why food must be masticated before swallowed.
Food must be masticated before chewing because it aids in our
digestion and boost our nutrient adsorption. Chewing is an essential
part of digestion. The more you chew, the better your food will be
broken down (with the help of digestives enzymes released in your
mouth) prior to entering your stomach. When food is properly broken
down, the risk of bloating and adverse GI symptoms will improve. The
more you chew, the more nutrients you will absorb. Considering we
eat to nourish our bodies, this is an important point to make. If you
properly chew your food, it will be digested and metabolized more
effectively.
Why is most food digested?
Food is digested because it is broke downs food into nutrients, which
the body uses for energy, growth, and cell repair. Food and drink must
be changed into smaller molecules of nutrients before the blood
absorbs them and carries them to cells throughout the body.
What sequence of organs do substances pass through, as they
move through the human digestive system?
There is certain steps food and liquid must take before exiting your
system.
Step 1: Mouth.
Step 2: Esophagus.
Step 3: Stomach.
Step 4: Small Intestine
Step 5: Large Intestine, Colon, Rectum and Anus
