I: Thank you. Now, Part One. I’m going to ask you some questions about yourself.
(Choose up to five questions, one from each of the different topic areas, as time allows.

That weed-killer you’ve been using - did you know it’s highly toxic?

• I’m your boss. I start.


Some of your colleagues have been complaining that you’re not really pulling your
weight, I’m afraid.

• We’re classmates. I start.


What d’you think we can do to stop that new girl from attention-seeking all the time?

I: Second situation (choose one situation from B).

• I’m a vet. One of your animals has had adverse side-effects from the medicine I
prescribed for it last week. You start.

• I’m your boss at a 24-hour store. You would like to be excused from working on the
night shift. You start.

• I’m a close friend. I have been offered a well-paid job abroad but you think taking it
would be a mistake. You start.

• I’m the manager at your local supermarket. You think our products are far too
expensive recently. You start.

PART 3 (4 minutes)

I: Now, Part Three. We’re going to discuss something together.

A millionaire has donated a large sum of money to be spent on research which would
benefit mankind. Here are some of the projects which have been suggested. Let’s talk
about them and decide which two would benefit mankind most. (Hand over candidate’s
task sheet.)

C Genius is one percent talent, ninety-nine percent hard work

I: (Hand over piece of paper and pen/pencil.) You now have thirty seconds to write some
notes to help you. So, your topic is (repeat topic). (Withdraw eye contact for thirty
seconds. Leave recorder running.)

C: (Talks.)

I: (When candidate has talked for a maximum of three minutes, say, ‘Thank you’, and then
ask some follow-up questions.)
