The unit Climate change was created for 3rd grade.

The unit will incorporate the teachings of


climate change, global warming, environmental impact, human ac vity, climate change, and
taking ac on towards climate change. Students will partake in a variety of inquiry-based
learning ac vi es to further their knowledge. First, the students will be introduced to what
climate change is by comple ng a T-chart based on two pictures of the same environment.
Students will iden fy how global warming occurs using cause and e ect within greenhouse
e ect phenomena by comple ng a owchart. Students will also illustrate and label parts of the
greenhouse by comple ng a foldable. Following, students will iden fy how climate change
a ects the environment by demonstra ng the e ects of mel ng ice caps. Next, students will
explain how carbon dioxide is emi ed into the environment by comple ng a sequence of events
chart. Lastly, students will complete a postcard ac vity to take ac on towards climate change.

Students will be using inquiry-based learning to iden fy, demonstrate, and explain the
di erent a ributes climate change has on Earth. When the unit is complete, students
will demonstrate their knowledge of climate change and how to take ac on to prevent
climate change from happening.
