Guth-Modulating Valves: The Perfect Solution

The document summarizes Guth-modulating valves and their features. It describes stainless steel membrane and piston actuators available in different sizes to match various processes. It also discusses the precise valve positioner that integrates an I/P converter, limit switch, and continuous position response. The replaceable valve fittings allow for different kvs values with linear or equal percentage modulation characteristics.

Guth-modulating valves

The perfect
solution
VSR modulation valve with membrane actuator

Eight different stainless steel membrane actuators, in

an electro-polished turnable version, are available
optimally to match the valve to the process and price.

A robust stainless steel lantern construction connects

the valve with its actuator and allows the NAMUR
valve positioner to be attached.

The precise valve positioner (power comparison

principle) enables the following to be integrated in
one unit:
– I/P converter 4-20 / 0-20 mA
– limit switch
– continuous position response

The play and maintenance free stroke lever may be

adjusted for a 20 or 30 mm travel.

Depending on the task set, the forged housing system

can be combined and therefore multi-staged
modulation valves (from DN 10-150) can be realised.
As a result of the spherical shape of the housing,
characteristic such as
– high level of resistance to pressure (depending on
the valve type a max. pressure of 40 bar is possible)
– careful treatment of the product
– optimal flow conditions, and
– ability to clean
arise, which may be classified as being normal
attributes of these valves.

The replaceable valve fittings (cone and seat) ensure

the integration / conversion of different kvs value
stages with linear or equal percentage modulation
characteristics, and the cone may be finished so that
sealing is either metallic or elastomeric.

As a result of the stable stainless steel waste-wax

cast straining rings, on the one hand a quick and
simple dismantling or maintenance, and on the other
hand, a free selection for the direction for the
connections is possible.

The valve seat and housing fitment which are flush

with the inner wall, guarantee complete draining of
the valve body. Soiling products by oxidation,
entrainment loss and cleaning agent residues is
completely eliminated.

The entrive valve fitment can be lifted out for

maintenance and inspection.
VSR modulation valve electronic with piston actuator

Depending of the operation in question, the electronic

governor head can be configured as apositioning or
process controller by using a DIP switch.

Besause of the integrated position sensor, the position

of the valve can at all times be reported back and
optically displayed.

The robust stainless steel cover guarantees on the one

hand waterproof protection and on the other hand
protection from external influences. Additionally, it
rounds off the smooth, slim external appearance of a
cleanable hygienic fitting.

After completing the task of controlling, the actuator

cylinder’s air passages are closed by two solenoid
valves which also restrict self-ventilation consumption.

By employing standard lifting cylinders, this unit has

all the advantages of the regular actuator programme,
such as
– simple manoeuvrability (changing safety position)
– ability to dismantle the pre-tensed spring assembly
– doubly sealed hollow spindle
– wide-ranging, sophisticated actuator programme

The single piece valve spindle can be supplied with a

metallic or elastic sealing surface, as required. Within
a nominal width, various kvs values with different
characteristic curve (linear or equal percentage) can
be integrated or converted to.

Because of the known characteristic of cone housings,

they have also been employed here to maximise the
advantages of the VSR series.

The spindle is sealed with two elastic sealing

elements. The leakage borehole signals when it is
time to replace the sealing ring.

simple construction and operation

available as a pneumatic positioning controller

(signal range 0.2-1bar) or as an electro-pneumatic
positioning controller (signal range 4-20 / 0-20 mA).

partial range or split range operation possible.

because of high air performance (6 m3/h in normal

operation) it is suitable for powerful driving.

options such as
– I/P converter
– proximity switches
– continuous position response
– manometer group
can be integrated without problem.

reversible in function.

use with simple or double-acting actuators possible.

Electronic controlling unit which may be used for

positioning control or process control operation.

various required and actual value signals may be

freely selected
0 - 20 mA, 0 - 5V,
4 - 20 mA, 0 - 10V.

continuous valve position response from integral path

sensor possible.

because of two solenoid valves the forward and

reverse paths of the actuator cylinder when properly
adjusted ars closed (no self-ventilation consumption).

the operating keys installed on the solenoid valves

enable simple manual adjustment of the valve in its
end positions.

simple controller configuration by way of

DIP switches.

because of the stabile protective cover, the compact

governor head is waterproof and can stand up to
rough assembly operations.

The test

All modulation valves from GUTH undergo a final testing which is carried out on a computer supported valve test stand.
Depending on requirements, the following can be tested, displayed on a monitor screen and documented.
– kvs measurements according to DIN
– kvs individual value measurements, or
– regulation behaviour
Each valve receives an individually prepard test certificate.
