5. Short course description: Students will learn to understand and be able to apply
(selected) key concepts and frameworks of strategic
management
6. Programme Learning Outcome PLO 1. Strategic Management :
(PLO) Facilitate insight in the external environment of an
organization and advise (line) management with the aim of
making the correct management decisions for an organization.
7. Learning objectives The student will understand and be able to:
1. Assess of the strategic purpose of an organisation in
terms of the mission, vision, values and objectives.
2. Analyse the Corporate strategy in terms of the portfolio
of the business units (SBU’s).
3. Assess the Business strategy in terms of competitive
strategy of an organisation/SBU.
4. Analyse and describe the Macro-environment of an
organisation/SBU and perform an Industry analysis.
5. Identify strategic resources and capabilities of an
organisation and analyse if and how these can provide a
competitive advantage.
6. Analyse Mergers and Acquisitions as growth strategies.
7. Assess the performance of strategies in terms of direct
economic outcomes and overall organisational
effectiveness.
8. Type of Exam An individual assignment of researching, analysing and
describing different aspects of the strategy of an assigned
multinational company in a report of approximately 5.000
words (+/- 10%). Deadline January 28 23:59.
