CHAPTER I

THE PROBLEM AND ITS SETTING

This study will discuss the introduction of the study, the statement of the problem, the

significance of the study and the scope and delimitation. This will introduce what is the study all about.

INTRODUCTION

Online learning is education that occurs through the use of the Internet. It is also known as "E-

learning," among other things. However, online learning is only one type of "distance learning" - the

umbrella term for any learning that occurs over time and not in a traditional classroom setting. The

COVID-19 pandemic has altered the course of history. Because of the virus's nature, particularly how it

is transmitted, it has altered human behaviors, relationships, and lifestyles of students, as well as having

profound effects on the economic, political, and cultural landscapes of societies all over the world.

Higher education institutions (HEIs), both public and private, have also had to adjust to the new

situation in which face-to-face interaction and large-scale gatherings are prohibited. The Philippines'

leading universities and colleges are dedicated to their mission. Teachers and administrators were

tasked with revising and adapting course syllabi and requirements from the comfort of their own homes

as they transitioned to alternative or remote teaching modalities, both synchronous and asynchronous.

Learning management systems such as Canvas, Moodle, and Blackboard, as well as applications such

as Google Meets, Zoom, and Google Classroom, were used where students and teachers had access to

electronic devices and reliable Internet connections. Where students had limited access to computers or

unreliable Internet access, teachers and students exchanged messages, notes, and materials via text

messaging, e-mail, Facebook Messenger. In some cases, these arrangements became unsustainable, and

some community colleges were forced to suspend remote or online classes due to students' uneven

socioeconomic status affecting their access to these modes of learning, concerns about the mental

health of both students and teachers affected by the uncertainty became yet another reason for the

suspension of online classes. In an era of quarantines and viral outbreaks, it appears that online learning

is the only viable option for continuing education at a distance. This, however, appears to be based on

1
an incorrect assumption. It should be noted that online learning is only one type of distance education.

Distance education is defined broadly as any type of learning experience in which the learner and the

instructor are physically separated from one another. Such a dislocation, it could be argued, "the ideal

context for free-flowing thought that allows us to move beyond the restricted confines of a familiar

social order." Furthermore, this type of education provides opportunities for learning to all learners,

regardless of their circumstances. This means that, through distribution and economies of scale,

distance education has the potential to expand access to education.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The main objective of this study is to determine the student’s satisfaction about online

learning materials in Polangui Community College.

1. What online platform should we utilize to ensure student satisfaction?

2. What are/is the common cause of lack of materials used in teaching in terms of resource,

materials and limited budgets?

3. How will this affect the students mental, emotional and physical well-being?

4. do online learning and module materials have an impact on students?

ASSUMPTIONS OF THE STUDY

The Researcher is required to provide that facts to be true but have not been verified. In this

study, the following assumptions were made:

1. The cause of lack of material used in teaching in terms of resource, materials and limited budgets.

2. There are effects on the mental, emotional, and physical - well being of students.

2
3. There are impact of online learning and module material on students.

SCOPE AND DELIMITATION

The purpose of this study is to seek out how satisfied Polangui Community College students

are with their online learning materials. It will include determining student engagement as well as the

impact of online learning to them. Polangui Community College students will be respondents of the

said study. The questions prepared to meet the research's information requirements will set the study's

boundaries. The interview will focus on some justifications, such as what are/are the common causes of

a lack of materials used in teaching in terms of resource, materials, and budget constraints, how will

this affect students' mental, emotional, and physical well-being, and why do online learning and

module materials have an impact on students. The researchers' questions are expected to provide

answers to these justifications.

This research will not include anything that are unrelated to the research paper's topic, such as

investigating the respondents' personalities or other private information. Outside of the institution,

other school workers will not be included in this study.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The researcher believes that this study will not only yield data that will be helpful to his/her,

more so to the following groups of people:

CHED OFFICIALS: The CHED officials will learn about the impact of distance learning on Polangui

Community College students, as well as what is happening at other colleges and institutions, then they

3
will rethink the mode of learning that is very beneficial to the students especially to their mental,

emotional, and physical health.

TEACHERS: Teachers will be informed about their students' problems with distant learning, they will

then have a greater understanding of their student's position and will be more considerate.

STUDENTS: Students will comprehend and share their burden with other students in terms of distance

learning, according to the researchers, students will understand other students better if they are

experiencing similar challenges.

PARENTS: Parents will learn about their children's feelings and reactions to distance learning, as well

as the impact of the new form of learning on them. They will also learn about different ways to assist

their children in coping with their problems.

RESEARCHERS: Future scholars will be exposed to this tendency or issues of distant learning

among Polangui Community College students, allowing them to effectively address the issue and

possibly develop new methods or modes of learning for the students.
