Reason of work and Condition of work:
A- A dead leg is a section of pipe work or vessel which contains hydrocarbon fluids and / or water under stagnant conditions
(either permanently or intermittently), or, where there is no measurable flow. More precisely, a dead leg is any segment of
piping extending below the horizontal plane of the pipe which can become a trap for water, sediment or other corrosive
30 materials. Furthermore, a broad definition of a dead leg includes dead ends, which refer to piping that does not extend below the
horizontal plane of the pipe yet contains stagnant fluids.
therefor, the dead legs in each piping system shall be inspected every 1 year by sitable UT thickness measurment device.
C- Flushing dead legs with un-treated fluids can reduce the threat of corrosion by removing deposits and preventing microbial
biofilms becoming established.
Dead Leg Drainage and Flushing:

1-remove the drain plug or open the valve to drainage the dead leg nozzles.
50 2-Be sure that the dead leg nozzles completely drained.
60 3-If necessary flush the dead leg nozzles with water to remove the deposits stagnant.
70 Report for any abnormality, anomaly found and comments on the integrity manager (raise CM for anomaly)
80 .notifay operation for completion, close the work permit.
