Good day! This module for Practical Research 2 will
help you in illustrating the importance of quantitative research
across fields. You have learned the characteristics, strengths,
weaknesses and kinds of quantitative research. This time, you
will illustrate the application and usefulness of quantitative
research in different fields.
After this lesson, you will find yourself capable to
determine and decide the appropriate quantitative research
topic across fields.
For questions and clarifications, feel free to ask your
parents or contact your teacher.

At the end of this module, you should be able to:

1. Determine the field of discipline for the

given research studies; and

2. Illustrate the importance of quantitative

research across fields.

Writer: Michael P. Tumilap, Sta. Ana National High School 4

Introduction

People do research to find solutions, even tentative ones to problems, in order to

improve or enhance ways of doing things, to disprove or provide a new hypothesis or

simply to find answers to questions or solutions in daily life. In natural and social

sciences, quantitative research is the systematic, empirical investigation of observable

phenomena via statistical and mathematical techniques (Vanderstoep & Johnston,

2009). Quantitative research has undeniable impact on the different aspects of society.

The findings of a particular quantitative study can influence crucial decision affecting

different organizations and individuals (Barrot, 2017).

For instance, companies may use quantitative data in evaluating the

effectiveness of certain leadership styles on employee performance. Educators can

utilize quantitative research in examining the relationship between the performance of

teachers and the academic performance of students (Creswell, 2002). Quantitative

research can also be used to better understand the relationship between the quality of

quarantine facilities and the number of COVID19 recovered individuals.

Sample Problem:

The study of Angeles (2016) reveals that some companies in Davao City, the

needs of their employees are not properly provided, hence there is a greater chance of

neglecting good employees in the organization, inefficient coordination between

managers and subordinates and decrease in the productivity regarding the products or

output of the company. The researcher intended to know the level of job satisfaction

and level of performance among employees of Coca Cola Bottlers Philippines, Davao

branch. Determining the aspects of job satisfaction that influence an employees’

performance is the major concern of this study. The result of this study became the

basis of the administration as an organizational assessment, addressing the issues of

the employees in granting their pleasure, motivation and satisfaction in their work.

Answer the following questions:

1. What specific field/ discipline the scenario is inline?

Answer: Business

2. What are the key words used by the authors to present the findings in a quantitative

way?

Answer: level, influence

3. What actions made by the authorities/ administrators based from the findings.

Answer: The issues of the employees were addressed.

4. What do you think is/ are the improvements happened to the life of the employees

after the action by the authorities/ administrator has been taken?

Answer: The levels of satisfaction and performance of the employees have increased

and eventually the productivity of the company has improved.

Wow! It is nice to know that you already have a good

understanding on the purpose of quantitative research

across fields and its sample research study. It will now be

easier for you to appreciate the importance of quantitative

research in your daily life. At this point, you will apply the

importance of quantitative research in more different

fields. Are you ready to do the next activity?

Writer: Michael P. Tumilap, Sta. Ana National High School 11

Let’s Investigate!

Instruction: Below is a scenario. Read carefully the research problem. Observe how

the result is presented, and analyze how the authorities took action to

address the problems by responding to the following

statements/questions.

Scenario

The country’s prevalence of childhood obesity is increasing. Overweight

children face risks of compromised physical and mental well-being, increased
incidence of disease processes, and increased risk of adult obesity. Data revealed
that 62% of this child population with high prevalence of overweight and obesity was
located in urban community. Majority are males (42.9%) compared to females
(20%). It further reveals that private school children had higher levels of overweight
and obesity than in public schools. With this, the Department of Education has
imposed and implemented an order to stop selling unhealthy foods in schools.

Congratulations for the great work! It seems that you have

now the knowledge how quantitative research has

awakened the authorities and changed the life of people

1. Quantitative research is important to the following fields:

a. Social Inquiry;

b. Arts;

c. Information and Communication Technology (ICT);

d. Science;

e. Agriculture and Fisheries;

f. Sports;

g. Business; and

h. Education;

2. Quantitative research is capable of addressing problems by creating intervention/

change to the lives of people for betterment.

Writer: Michael P. Tumilap, Sta. Ana National High School 13

Instruction: Read carefully the research problem. Observe how the result is presented,

and analyze how the authorities took action to address the problem by

responding to the following statements/questions.

One of the major problems in schools today in Davao City is absenteeism

among students because of online game addiction. Instead of attending to their

classes and spending money for their projects, they spend their times and allowance

in the internet shop. A survey questionnaire was purposely administered to fifty (50)

students in School A who are engaged in online game addiction to determine the level

of practices among internet cafe owners on the implementation of Children’s Welfare

Code (banning school kids from Internet cafes on school days). The result reveals

that majority of the students who are addicted to online games are males (98%)

compared to females (2%). Moreover, majority of them are Grade 10 students (46%)

while Grade 7 shows the lowest number (12%). On the other hand, it reveals that

internet café owners have low level of practices on the implementation of Children’s

Welfare Code. With this, the city government of Davao has strengthened their

monitoring to the internet cafés towards strict implementation of the said ordinance

and with strong coordination with the school administration.
