Introduction

Plastic bottle light bulb is an alternative source of light. This is made with plastic bottle that
contains water and bleach which will be put in a hole that will be created on their roof for the
sunlight to reflect brighter. This improvised light bulb will be a big help for each families who
struggle with the availability of electricity and this will also lessen their electricity bill. As their bill
will be lessen, the money that is reserved for their electricity can be used to other essential
needs such as their daily food. In order to conduct this event, we will be collecting plastic bottles
from the resident of "Putuhan"/ Brgy. 3, and those bottles will be our primary material. We will
be needing 200 bottles and that should be collected from 25 beneficiaries. Those 25
beneficiaries will be receiving 1 kilo of rice in exchange to their bottles. Those bottles should be
already cleaned when it is given to us. As we already have the bottles, we will also be providing
the bleach and water. After that, we will be demonstrating the methods on how to made the
plastic bottle light bulbs to the beneficiaries together with the other barangay officials. We will
just demonstrate the method on how it will be made and how this plastic bottle light bulb will
work and some barangay official will be the one who will put the finished product to the roof. We
came up with this proposal because we all know that our parents are struggling especially in
having an income because of the pandemic. We proposed this so that we can help some people
to lessen their monthly bills.

Problem Statement:

Problem must be identified as early as possible to make the best decision and solution to the
problem for the benefits of people within the community. We all know that not everyone has
given a chance to have electricity due to some reasons, others may not afford to have at least a
light bulb from their home or because it consumes high amount of money for their daily
expenses. Electricity is one common problem in the community, it's consumable and costly. So,
we, the Gracious Givers decided to make a plastic bottle light bulb project to help and provide
lights to the people in the Putuhan, brgy 3. This is to make an improvement for lives of people
who can't afford or at least to lessen their electricity. Gracious Givers will help as long as they
can and have the capability to respond to the needs of others.

OBJECTIVES:

The project aims to :

- Help unfortunate people on saving money and energy.

- Improve the future and health of the environment by significantly reducing plastic waste.

- Bring light to the families living in Barangay 3 (Putuhan) without electricity

- Offers improvement in one’s home or community.

- Inspire other people to be creative in their own way and transform or make use of those things
they did not use to a reusable one.

Method

The group will coordinate to Barangay 3’s barangay officials and proposed the said
project/event through a formal letter to be sent to the barangay captain. After the proposal’s
approval, there will be an event called “walong bote mo, kapalit ng isang kilong bigas ko”, where
the collection of plastic bottles will happen and will be managed by the group’s three members -
Ms. Escober, Ms. Laparan, and Ms. Liquido.

There will be a maximum of 200 light bulbs to be installed. Before the implanting date, the 2
group members- Ms. Llanto and Ms. Fornal, will conduct an assessment with people in
Barangay 3 to know the families who would like to receive an improvised light bulb. The group’s
number of plastic bottle collection goal is 200. Given this, there will be a total of 25 participants
on the collecting process. These plastic bottle collections will be held 4 days before the day of
implementing the project in front of the “putuhan” or near the entrance of the Barangay 3,
depending on the respond of the barangay officials on the said proposal with regards to the
availability of the place.

While collecting the 200 bottles, remaining members of the group- Ms. Haber, Ms. Laparan, and
Ms. Lusuegro, will buy other materials needed for the project such as chlorine (2000ml),
vulcaseal, roof (1800in x 2000in), roof cutter, paet, hammer, plais, sand paper, text screw, and
grills.. On the agreed date of the project implementation, the group will invite a laborer to guide
families whose men are at work during that time. The group will then go to Barangay 3’s
barangay office to reinform the officials that the project will now be implemented and ask for
guidance in showing what area of the barangay the group could demonstrate how the Plastic
Bottle light bulb will be created, and pasted.

This process will elaborate the procedures as follows:

1. The metal roof (could be flat or corrugated) will be cut by approximately 9 by 10 inches.

2. A circle will be cut, 2mm smaller than the bottle container

3. Small strips will be cut and bend upwards steel sheet

4. The surface of the bottle will be scratched using a sandpaper, for the glue to stick better

5. Apply vulcaseal on the metal strip then Fit the bottle in the metal roof’s hole

6. fill the container with about 10ml of chlorine and filled the rest with water.

7. Cut a diameter similar in size of the plastic container and 2mm small strips on the roof of the
house

8. Paste a layer of vulcaseal on the original roof where the plastic bottle will be glued firmly.
9. drill 6 holes on the perimeter and riveted of the roof

10. apply the last layer of vulcaseal on the newly cut holes and edges to prevent leaking

During the demonstration process, all families of the chosen beneficiaries will have a one
representative to avoid overcrowding the provided area. After demonstrating, all family
representatives will receive all the materials needed to create an improvise light bulb. There will
be available tools given to the barangay that the families could borrow when pasting the plastic
light bulb.

BUDGET PROPOSAL

"Plastic Bottle Light Bulb"

Project Venue Location: Venue: Barangay 3

barangay official Location: "Putuhan" brgy 3

Period Coverage -Light bulb has provided more than 360,000 solar bottle bulbs to families all
over the world, enriching their lives with a device as effective as its design is simple. We deal
with it a bottle at a time.’ That something as simple as a plastic bottle can bring such benefits to
so many people shows that sustainable solutions need not be complex or even expensive to
help those in need. The plastic bottle light bulb is made out of a used plastic soda bottle or
water bottle, which is filled with water and liquid bleach. The bottle is then fixed into a hole in the
roof. Plastic bottle is a simple, affordable and sustainable solution for many families living in
Barangay 3 without electricity or light. In order to make the water bottles "light up," holes are cut
in the metal roofs of homes and a bottle is placed and sealed into each hole so that its lower
half emerges from the ceiling. All of the materials needed was included in the budget proposal
and we assure to you that all of these are have a good quality.
