Assalamualaikum, my name is Nur Aisya Bt Saidan. I live in Kuala Nerang, Kedah. I am student
of University Technologi Mara, Merbok. I studied in Banking. This portfolio is one of the individual
assignments that I need to do for the subject Study Skills (UED 102). In this subject, I have learned
many useful study strategies that very help me as a student to achieve academic goals.

TOPIC 1: GETTING READY TO LEARN

We as a new student entering the university life need to be aware that the life of the university is
different from the school. In this university life, no one will take care of us. We need to manage
ourselves well and carry out our duties as a student who want to achieve success in learning. The
figure 1 below shows the different between high school and college life.

WHAT IS LEARNING STYLE?


The term learning style refers to the preferred way to retain information the right one. In other
word, as a student we need to have our own style for learning.

MY LEARNING STYLE
There are three of learning style inventory. I prefer to use auditory and kinesthetic in my
learning. This is a few of skills that I use.
❖ I like to read difficult passage out loud.
❖ I like to explain information out loud.
❖ I like to teach my friend when they didn’t know to answer the task.
❖ I like to take note when my lecture is teaching.
❖ I like to take online test when I have space time.

WHAT IS GOALS?

Goals are the ends toward which we direct our effort. In other words, goals are things we want to
achieve, aim for as we pursue are certain course of action. You can improve your academy
performance in university by learning to sets goal that motivate you to do well.

This is the best library in Uitm Merbok, Kedah. It is called “Perpustakaan Sultan Badlishah” This
library always full of students and lecture. There are many facilities provide to make student easier
get the information.

THE OPERATING HOURS

❖ Sunday-Wednesday: 8:00 am to 4:45 pm.

❖ Friday-Saturday: closed.

In addition, we can download applications digital library on our mobile phone. It can make it easier
for us to find information when there is no laptop at that time. There are various services available
in the digital library. For example, we can use online database to find information.

TIME MANAGEMENT AND ORGANIZATION SKILL


Time management is the way for student schedule or regulate their time every day. They need to
use their time effectively to complete their tasks or assignment in less time. Every student needs
to manage their time because it is the key to success.

FIXED COMMITMENT CALENDAR

We need to manage our time effectively to achieve a goal. The best way to ensure that we’re not
wasting time and studying sufficiently is to make a schedule that we commit to keeping. To do so,
we might consider using a fixed-commitment calendar (FCC).

MEMORY LEARNING

WHAT IS MEMORY?

Memory is the personal record of past experiences. It is the brain's ability to store information to
use later. We can remember activities that we had done based on the memory.

WHY WE NEED MEMORY STRATEGIES

We need memory strategies to perform well in learning. Learning to get information out of
memory is important as learning to put that information into memory.

TAKING LECTURE NOTES

❖ Taking good lecture notes is probably the single most important activity in class. Most lecturer
don’t do the job of note taking for you. You need to listen, select the appropriate information
and write it down with few clues from your lecturer.

❖ Be active listening in class.


❖ We need to organize information that given by your lecture.
❖ We can provide to repetition of the material.
❖ Class assignment are usually given in the lecture.
❖ More understand what we had learnt.

❖ Pay attention to difficult words, phrases, and sentences.


❖ Highlight, underline and capitalize key points in your lecture notes.
❖ Some words need to be written in short but in under stable forms to make us easier and fast
taking notes.
❖ Shares and compares notes with classmates to know what important point you didn’t write.
❖ Summarize your notes in your own word.
❖ Get ready lecture paper and pen.
❖ Do not mix notes of each subject in one book.

WHAT IS ACADEMIC INTEGRITY AND PERFOMANCE

Academic integrity refers to putting those values into practice by being honest, fairs and taking
responsibility in learning. Academic integrity is practiced in the majority of educational and
institution is noted in mission statements, policies and procedures in learning. As a student, we
need to take responsibility to ensure that we demonstrate academic integrity by:

❖ Using information appropriately.


❖ Know the information come from.
❖ Not presenting other people work.

WHAT IS PLAGIARISM?

❖ Plagiarism is the action of taking the writings of another person and make it as your own.
In other word, you had copied the text without clearly showing where you take it.

❖ Give yourself time to think when started writing a paper.
❖ Having enough time to do your research.

❖ Include the reference pages at the end of paper.
❖ Add some interesting value in the topic.
❖ Use words that are easy to understand.
CALCULATING GPA AND CGPA
WHAT IS GPA?
GPA refers to grade point average. It is a standard way of measuring academic achievements in
your exam. As a student, we need to get a better grade to pass in exam.
WHAT IS CGPA
CGPA is cumulative grade point average. Academic performance from 0.00 – 4.00.
How to calculate GPA and CGPA?
❖ GPA: Total (Credit hour per course X grades receive per course)
Total of credit hours per semester

❖ CGPA: Total (Credit hours per course X grades received per hour)
