Making word lists can help to find the voice of a story, a piece of art-
work and help create variety and the emotion of a scene.

Have you ever stopped in the paint section of a hardware store or


looked a box crayons and read all of the names that describe a color?

Having a variety of color names at your fingertips can help create


specificity in your writing or help you create that exact color your
after in a piece of artwork.

A stronger vocabulary can help you paint a more evocative image in


the reader’s mind, for example: if you describe a character’s hair as
the color of rust or carrot-squash, rather than red.
