College of Arts and Sciences General Education Department: Academic Year 2020-2021

This document is a module from a college ethics course. It presents a case study involving an MMDA personnel issuing a traffic violation to a driver transporting his sister-in-law, a frontline health worker, to the hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic. Students are asked to apply virtue ethics and Kantian deontological ethics to analyze how they would respond if they were the MMDA personnel. They must justify their decision using principles from the lessons on each ethical theory. The case study was prepared by an instructor to facilitate group discussion and application of ethics concepts.

If you were the MMDA personnel and you will apply (1) Virtue ethics (1st case/answer) and (2) Kantian or deontological ethics (2nd case/answer), what will
you do? What will be your act itself and your intention? What are the circumstances you have to consider in making your decision? Analyze your decision.
Justify your answer by giving principles discussed in the lesson on Virtue ethics and Kant/Deontological ethics. Explain the salient points to justify your
answer.
