QUESTION

1. Read the story “The time travel plumber” carefully and do the exercises to help you understand
more about the story.
2. Make an analysis of the story. Use the following guided questions to arrange the analysis.
a. NARRATION (min. 100 words, including theory)
i. How do you explain the NARRATION technique used in the story? Support your
argument by quoting appropriate parts in the story and theory of narration.
ii. What effects can you feel from the narration technique in the story? State your answer
and explain it (Read Gill, 1998:110-111)

b. CHARACTER (min. 100 words, do not include quotations, the text you take from the story)
i. Who is the main character of the story? Support your answer by defining “the main
character” and explaining your reason why the character is the main character.
ii. Mention 2 (two) traits of the main character and decide what technique used by the
author to present the characters (based on Gill page 135 – 147). Give evidence through
the story.
iii. Is Charlie an important character for influencing Priya’s behaviours? Show their relation.

c. SETTING (min. 100 words, do not include quotations, the text you take from the story)
i. What impression of the kitchen is created by the author?
ii. Does the setting reveal anything about the author's views?

d. PLOT and CONFLICT (min 200 words, do not include quotations, the text you take from the
story)
i. How does the author use the plot in the story? Choose between chronological or non-
chronological.
ii. Why does the author use the plot? Show the relation between the chosen plot and the
author’s aim in the story.
iii. Is there any significance difference if the author does not write the part of “July 17” in
the middle of the story? Explain it
iv. Show 2 (two) psychological conflicts happened to Priya. Give evidences through the
text.

e. THEME (min 200 words, do not include quotations, the text you take from the story)
i. Consider how appropriate is the title of story. Give your opinion whether it is
appropriate or not. You may give alternative title for this and supporting your answer by
giving reason.
ii. What is the moral theme or moral value you can get from this story?
iii. If you were Priya, would you do the same to solve the problem she had? State your
action or solution to solve the problem.
