Student Performance
A mathematics test was given to a class of 16 students. The questions were divided into 3
categories: Addition, Subtraction, and Division. Based on the data provided from the
spreadsheet, the students were either unable to comprehend the material given, the questions on
the test were confusing, or the lesson itself was not taught to where the students could retain the
information and apply it to the test. In the bar chart, it shows that the average number of students
who failed was higher than students who had a 70 or higher. When looking at the percent of
questions answered correctly for each category, the topics that were hardest hit were addition and
division.
Juan, Cody, and Jamal are all students that have grasped at least two or more of the topics in the
test. Juan understood all the questions for addition, subtraction, and division with a percent
average of 100%. Cody excelled in subtraction and addition with 100%, and had a good
knowledge of addition with an 80% passing average on the questions. Jamal did well on addition
and subtraction; however, there definitely needs to be a review on division with the average
amount of correctly answered questions being 60%.
Patrick answered 60% of addition questions correctly, which will need to be reviewed, and
answered 40% of subtraction and division questions correctly. Subtraction and Division will
probably be the focus during review. Luke will need extra support in all the topics with an
average of 40% answered correctly for addition, subtraction, and division. Nathan answered 60%
of addition questions correctly and this will need to be reviewed again; however, Nathan
answered 40% of addition and subtraction questions correctly, so these topics will be the main
issues covered first.
