Target Audience

This curriculum is designed for students who want to familiarize themselves


with fundamental language skills such as basic needs and daily topics in
communicative situations.

Course Objectives

• To develop the four communicative skills (listening and reading


comprehension, conversation, and written expression).

• To master the grammar outlined in this course and its use in


communicative situations.

• To become proficient in the vocabulary and idioms designed for this


course and its use in communicative situations.

• To reinforce the course’s contents through extra materials and


homework.

Methodology

This pedagogical model is based on the communicative approach, which tries


to prepare the student for real-life communication with other Spanish
speakers. With this objective in mind, often times photographs, illustrations,
audio samples, videos, texts and role-plays that represent daily life will be
used. This will serve as a starting point to stimulate conversations during class.
Functional Content

• Formulate questions about day to day topics

• Sharing about daily routines

• Introduce someone and respond to introductions

• Compare culture, objects, places and situations

• Describe weather, physical and personality traits

• Share plans, projects and preferences

• Accepting invitations and meeting up

• Expressing and asking about need, interests, likes and wishes

Grammatical Content

• Nouns:

o Gender: how to distinguish the gender according to the ending


of a word

o Common irregular words. Gender of nouns when referring to


people (professions, relatives, etc.)

• Articles:

o Gender in animals and objects

o Presence and absence in use of articles: general rules

• Pronouns:

o Personal pronouns

o Possessive pronouns

• Adverbs:

o Quantity

o Comparatives
• Adjectives:

o Descriptive

o Possessive

o Comparatives

• Numerals

o Ordinal and cardinal numbers

o Common weights and measurements

o Equivalence of billions/trillions in Spanish

• Demonstrative pronouns

• Possessives:

o General uses: identification, ownership

• Prepositions and prepositional expressions

• Key words:

o Indicators of the present time

o Indicators of location

o Time expressions: days of the week, months, dates, year seasons.

• Verbs:

o Present, past and future tense

o Verbal conjugation

o Ordering and placement in a sentence

• Sentence formation:

o Affirmative sentences

o Formulating questions

COURSE INFORMATION

Availability:

• Limited to 6 people (1 group) per 1-hour session.

• Limited to 3 groups per day.

• Classes held Monday – Friday (specific days/time TBD)

• Minimum of 2 days per week / maximum of 5 days per week

Platform: Skype.

If use of other platform is more convenient for students, Course Tutor can adapt.

Work Material: Course Tutor will provide students with any digital work
material required for class.

Technical language: Any technical language required by students may be


incorporated into course content as requested.

Hourly rate: $35.00 USD / student
