RIPSTAR® Saturant
RIPSTAR Saturant is a two component, 100% solid, grey pigmented, impregnation resin for
structural strengthening applications using FRP composites.
Uses:
 Impregnating resin for wet method of RIPSTAR FRP application.
 As a primer for wet application method.

Advantages:
 Can be used for both manual and mechanical impregnation methods
 Superior mechanical properties
 Excellent adhesion to many substrates.
 Extended pot life
 Easy to mix and apply by trowel and impregnation roller

Packaging:
 RIPSTAR SATURANT is supplied in 5 kg two component pack.

Coverage:
 200 ~ 350 GSM fiber sheet: 0.6 to 0.8 kg/m2
 350 ~ 450 GSM fiber sheet: 0.8 to 1.0 kg/m2
 750 ~ 900 GSM fiber sheet: 1.2 to 1.4 kg/m2

Typical Properties:
Appearance Gray viscous liquid
Mixed density 1.35 kg/liter
Mixing Ratio, Part A: Part B. 100: 35 (by weight)
Pot life 25 Minutes at 25°C
Note: Pot life of product starts soon after component
parts that forms a product are mixed thoroughly.
Stipulated 25 minutes pot life is for standard
temperature of 25°C. For elevated temperatures, pot
life may reduce considerably. For longer pot life, it is
necessary to ensure that component parts of products
are cooled before mixing.

Volume solids 100 %

Setting time 5 Hours at 25°C
Mixed viscosity at 25°C (cps.) 3000 ± 500
Full cure 7 Days
Compressive strength (ASTM > 40 MPa at 1 Day
C579) > 60 MPa at 7 Days
Tensile strength (BS:6319, pt 7) > 19 MPa
Flexural strength (BS:6319, pt 3) > 31 MPa

Application procedure:
Mixing:
Stir the Part A (Base) component first. Add the Part B (Hardener) and mix well using slow
speed mixer for at least 3 minutes before use.

Application:
Apply first coat of fully mixed RIPSTAR Saturant to primed concrete substrate using roller or
brush. Place the RIPSTAR fiber sheet and roll in the longitudinal direction of the fibers two or
three times using a deforming roller and rubber spatula in order to impregnate the resin into
the fibers and to deform the resin coat. For joining strips of fiber sheet, a 15 cm overlap length
is required in the main direction. Additional resin must be applied at the overlap location on
top of the outer layer of fiber sheet to be overlapped. Apply the second coat of RIPSTAR
Saturant ensuring total saturation of the RIPSTAR fiber sheets. Where more than one layer of
fiber sheet is to be applied, the above application method for RIPSTAR Saturant should be
repeated. In case of protection with plaster, ensure to dry-shake oven dried fine quartz grains
to assist bond strength with overlay.

Finishing:
Surfaces should be top coated within two days when exposed to direct sunlight or in other
cases within one week to assure proper adhesion of topcoat to saturant. Surfaces shall be
protected with the protective mortar/plaster application.

Storage and Shelf life All:

RIPSTAR Saturant must be stored where temperatures do not drop below +5°C. If product has
frozen, thaw at +5°C or above and completely reconstitute using mild mechanical agitation.
Do not use pressurized air for agitation. Store under cover, out of direct sunlight and protect
from extremes of temperature. Shelf life is 12 months when stored as above.

Safety precautions:
As with all chemical products, care should be taken during use and storage to avoid contact
with eyes, mouth, skin, and foodstuffs (which can also be tainted with vapor until product
fully cured or dried). Treat splashes to eyes and skin immediately. If accidentally ingested,
seek immediate medical attention. Keep away from children and animals. Reseal containers
after use. Do not reuse containers for storage of consumable item.
