TITLE: Facilitate Learning Session

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVE: Given the following condition, you must be


able to facilitate a learning session using
the Competency-Based Training delivery
approach.

DAY 1

MORNING SESSION: CONDUCT TRAINING ORIENTATION

1. Opening Prayer
2. Greetings
3. Introduce yourself as the trainer for the qualification.
4. Check the attendance of trainees.
5. Show your PowerPoint Presentation and discuss the following to your
trainees.

Note: Follow this order in preparing your PPT.

a. About the School- brief history, location, administration, school’s


VMGO

You don’t need to discuss this thoroughly. Just show the slides.

b. Definition of Competency-Based Training (CBT)

c. Ten (10) Principles of CBT

Explain each principle.

d. Characteristics of Traditional Approach Vs. CBT Approach

You don’t need to discuss this thoroughly. Just show the slides.

e. Definition of the Qualification based on the TR

f. The Competencies of the Qualification based on the TR


g. Role of the CBT Trainer

Just mention, no need to explain.

h. Role of the CBT Trainee

Just mention, no need to explain.

i. The Use of Competency-Based Leaning Material (CBLM)

Discuss briefly.

j. Instructional Facilities and Resources to be Used During the Training

Just show the slides, no need to state everything.

k. The Evaluation System:

 Assessment Methods to be used

 Achievement Chart- Show the actual Achievement Chart.

 Progress Chart- Show the actual Progress Chart.

 Trainee’s Record Book (TRB)

l. Workshop and Its Learning Areas

A tour of the workshop must be done. Explain the function of the


9 Learning Areas to the trainees.

AFTERNOON SESSION: CONDUCT PRE-ASSESSMENT/ RECOGNITION OF


PRIOR LEARNING (RPL)

Sample Script: “Now, I am going to conduct the pre-assessment or recognition of


prior learning. Are you ready?”

1. Get a copy of the pre-assessment instruments.

You have to print a blank form of the Data Gathering Tool for
Trainee’s Characteristics and TNA Form 1.1 (Self-Assessment
Check). You have prepared these in Plan Training Sessions.

2. Distribute the Data Gathering Tool for Trainee’s Characteristics and TNA
Form 1.1 (Self-Assessment Check) to the trainees.
3. Orient the trainees about the purpose of accomplishing these forms.
Explain to them the instruction on how to accomplish them.

4. Let the trainees accomplish the forms.

5. Collect the accomplished forms.

6. Administer the Pre-test.

 Distribute the test paper and answer sheets.

 Orient the trainees on the purpose of the test, type of test, test
instructions, time allotment and scoring.

7. When the time is up, collect the test papers and answer sheets.

8. Check the answers for pre-test and score each paper.

9. Based on your analysis, plan for actions on how RPL should be


administered to the trainees who claim to have current competencies.

Sample Script: “Thank you very much for your cooperation. I will take the
necessary actions based on the result of your pre-assessment.”
Day 2

FACILITATE TRAINING SESSION PROPER

Scenario: Based on the result of the RPL that you have conducted, one trainee
has current competencies in some learning outcomes of the qualification and the
other one has none. Conduct a training session based on this situation.

Venue: Actual CBT Workshop or Simulated CBT Workshop

STEPS/ PROCEDURE:

1. Prepare your facilities and workshop.

This is the time when you prepare all the facilities needed for this
training session. These include the signages of the 9 Learning Areas,
the Achievement Chart, Progress Chart, Training Activity Matrix, tables,
chairs and the tools, materials and equipment in performing the
demonstration. Make sure that all areas in your workshop are provided
with the necessary training materials before you start the session.

Show in your demonstration your preparation activities.

2. Greetings

3. Check the attendance of the trainees.

4. Motivation Activities (optional)

5. Present the Training Activity Matrix.

Sample Script: “Based on the pre-assessment activities that I had


administered yesterday, here is our Training Activity Matrix to guide you with
your activities for this training session.”

6. Assign trainees to different workstations and give proper instruction with


regard to their activity.

 The trainee without current competency will proceed to the


Learning Resource Area.

Sample Script:

“Since you have no prior learning in this qualification, kindly proceed to


the Learning Resource Area. You will start your activity by reading
Information Sheet 1.1-2 to Information Sheet 1.1-4 and answering
Self-Check 1.1-2 to Self-Check 1.1-4.

“Is it clear? Do you have some questions? You may start now.
 The trainee who claimed to have current competencies will proceed
to the Institutional Assessment Area.

Sample Script:

“Since you have claimed that you have current competencies in some
of the learning outcomes in UC 2 – Drive Light Vehicle, you are going
to proceed to the Institutional Assessment Area and prepare your
proofs/ evidences that will support your claim.

Prepare a table with two chairs in the Institutional Assessment


Area where the trainer and trainee will sit down facing each other.

“May I have your proof of current competency? Alright I am impressed


that you have presented me with these valid and authentic evidences,
nevertheless, you still have to undergo some methods of assessment
to further validate your claim. First, you will take a written test, perform
demonstration and undergo oral questioning. Are you ready?”

“This is a 20-item test for you to answer in 30 minutes. Just read the
instructions carefully before you start answering. Is that clear? You
may start now.”

“Time is up. Let me check your answer sheets first.”

“Now let us proceed to your demonstration. Please go to the Practical


Work Area.

“For this test, you are going to perform Garage Parking and Parallel
Parking within 30 minutes. Please take time to read the instructions
before you start your performance. Do you have some clarifications
before you begin? If none, then you may start now.”

The trainer will observe the trainee as he/ she performs the
demonstration and use the Performance Criteria Checklist in
evaluating his/ her performance. After the performance of the
trainee, ask him/ her to go back to the Institutional Assessment
Area.

For the oral questioning, both the trainer and the trainee will sit
down and face each other.

“Alright, at this point I will ask you some questions that would further
evaluate your competency… (Ask at least 2 questions form your Oral
Questioning Tool and let the trainee answer.)

“Thank you. I’ll be back to give you some feedback regarding your
performance.” (Go to the trainee without current competency.)
 The trainee Without Current Competency

Sample Script:

“Are you done? Let me check. Very good, you have completed your
first activities. In my evaluation, you are now ready to practice the skill.
Are you?”

“With that, you may now proceed to the Practical Work Area and
perform the demonstration. Please take time to read the instructions
carefully before you start your demonstration. Do you have any
questions and clarifications? If none, then you may start now.”

The trainer will observe the trainee as he/she performs the


demonstration and use the Performance Criteria Checklist in
evaluating his/ her performance.

7. Give feedback.

 Trainee with Current Competencies

Do this in the Institutional Assessment Area with you and the


trainee sitting down and facing each other.

Sample Script:

“How are you doing? I will now give you my feedback based on your
performance. In your written test, you’ve got 17 out of 20, good job,
congratulations!”

“In your demonstration, I have observed that you have satisfactorily


performed all the criteria required. It is very evident that you really have
acquired the competencies in your work experience as a Driver.

“In our interview, you were able to answer the questions satisfactorily. I
would just like to add that in every performance, you should always
remember to project contingency measures in the workplace.”

“Overall, I found you to be COMPETENT in this Unit of Competency


Drive Light Vehicle. Congratulations! I will now record your
achievement in the Achievement Chart and Progress Chart.

“Kindly receive this Certificate of Achievement. This is a proof that you


have demonstrated the competency in Drive Light Vehicle.

“Please wait for me in the Lecture Area.”


 Trainee Without Current Competency

You can do this in the Practical Work Area, with you and the
trainee facing each other.

Sample Script:

“I had observed your demonstration a while ago and based on your


performance, it was evident that you have carried out all the criteria
required for this task. You have also used the proper PPE and
observed safety during your performance and applied 5S after. So,
with that, Congratulations! Let me record your achievement in the
Achievement Chart.

“Please wait for me in the Lecture Area.”

8. Dismiss the trainees. Remind them to perform 5S and housekeeping


activities before leaving the workstation.

You can do this in the Lecture Area.

“You have completed the activities for today. I would like to commend you all
for your performance. For tomorrow’s activities, just refer to our Training
Activity Matrix and before you leave, don’t forget to perform 5S and
housekeeping activities. Thank you!”

Day 3

END OF TRAINING: CONDUCT POST TRAINING ACTIVITIES

1. Greetings

2. Conduct Post Test


For this, print a copy of your Post Test. Prepare one Post Test for
each trainee.

Sample Script:

“Since you already have completed our training, I am now going to


conduct the Post Test. This is the same test that you have taken during
our Pretest. This test is conducted to determine what you have learned
in our training.”

Distribute the test to the trainees and give them ample time to
answer it.

“Read the instruction first before you start answering. Are you ready?
You may start now.”

Collect the Post Test once the trainees are done.

3. Conduct Training Program Evaluation

For this, print a copy of the Training Program Evaluation form of


your qualification. Prepare one copy for each trainee.

Sample Script:

“At this point we have already finished the training, so I am now going to
conduct a Training Program Evaluation, to determine the effectiveness
of the training in achieving its objectives.”

“Kindly read the instructions and accomplish these forms.”

Distribute the forms to the trainees and give them ample time to
accomplish it.

“Alright, are you done? May I now collect the forms. Thank you.”

4. Analyze the Post Test and Training Program Evaluation Result and
make an action plan for Training Session Adjustment.

Note: Limit your demonstration within 30 minutes only.

Reminders:

1. Wear formal/ semi-formal attire.

2. Wear your Trainer’s ID.


3. Trainees should wear proper PPE when performing the task.

4. Bring/ prepare the following:

4.2 Training Activity Matrix

4.4 Achievement Chart

4.4 Progress Chart

4.5 Necessary forms/ instruments
