EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
In this case study report, I choose Hanis Zalikha the founder of Cakenis as my
entrepreneurship source of information. Cakenis offer a lot of scarves collection, apparel,
bags, cosmetics products, and plus size collection. They have a warehouse sale in Selangor
for people who wants to walk in to see the products. They also have their own websites to sell
their products.
Hanis Zalikha has made a research on the scarves that easy to wear and comfortable
for all hijabis. My study is to find the Personal Entrepreneurial Competencies (PECs) such as
information seeking, concern for high quality of work, problem solving and use of influence
strategies that made her a successful entrepreneur.

INTRODUCTION
1.1 Entrepreneur Profile
Hanis Zalikha binti Zainal Rashid or also referred to as Keknis by her fans, born
on 9 October 1990. She is the second child of seven siblings. She also an alumni
of UiTM Segamat, Johor in diploma in Business Management with the Vice
Chancellor Award with a Cumulative Grade Average Rating (CGPA) of 3.9. She
also plans on pursue her studies at a bachelor’s degree level after graduation.
She started her journey by being a blogger through her blog

lot of beauty and other tips in her blog, like recommendations on how to lose weight
or sometimes she likes to tell a story about her childhood. She was nominated for
the Most Influential Blog Award in 2011. Hanis Zalikha also a model and an actress.
She participated in television competition, Malaysian Dreamgirl in 2008 and
manage to be a second runner up within the competition. She was ranked within
the top ten in Google Zeitgeist in 2011 search.
On 8 June 2015, she married with Hairul Azreen bin Idris, a Malaysian actor.
They has been blessed with two adorable kids Yusuf Iskandar bin Hairul Azreen
born on 2016 and Alisa Aisyah binti Hairul Azree born on 2019. Her son, Yusuf
Iskandar has his own reality television program on Astro titled My Little Hero. Hanis
Zalikha also often appear in the show to share a parenting tips and their
experiences.

1.2 Business Profile
Cakenis was established under Hello Billionaires Sdn Bhd, the parent company
for famous Malaysian brands in 2015. Cakenis was inspired by Hanis Zalikha’s
nickname given by her fans “Keknis”. Hanis Zalikha become a model for her own
products. She sells her product through her official website Cakenis, online
FashionValet, Lazada and Shopee. Cakenis is a fashion and beauty brand, they
started with scarves which is instant hijabs with none pins. These scarves include
a tagline “Broochless, Just-Hook”, and it successfully gets an attention from
everyone. Besides scarves, Cakenis also launch other products like handbag,
makeup, clothes and others. Cakenis is located at 25-G, Block D, Jln Atmosphere
6, The Atmosphere, 43300 Seri Kembangan, Selangor.

2.1 Information Seeking
Hanis Zalikha pursues her study in Diploma in Business Management and
bachelor’s degree level first before she entered in business field. Hanis Zalikha
hired her friend who majored in Marketing Management as her marketing advisor.
Besides, Hanis Zalikha will do a research before launching a brand new
product. Hanis once attached a link of research to prove she study about the
ingredient in the products before produced and launched it on her Instagram after
a number of followers condemn her for claiming her beauty product will cut
appetite. Hanis Zalikha also always asks her customer a feedback to improve her
product.
2.2 Concern for High Quality of Work
All of Cakenis’ products using a high quality material and ingredients.
Hanis Zalikha herself uses the products she produces so she will make sure
the products are comfortable, simple and yet pretty. For her makeup products,
the ingredients are approved by KKM and harmful.
Cakenis produced a jumper collection a series of comfortable jumper
top made out of premium cotton spandex, though the jumper is thick it uses a
cooling fabric so users can wear it comfortably. Cakenis also launched a
Cakenis Curves such as corset, girdle, waist trainer and others that made
specially for curvy women. Cakenis corset is made of premium quality polyester
with flexible steel bones and high waist design which prevents it from rolling up
and down while you’re seated.

2.3 Problem Solving
Hanis Zalikha’s fans often asked Hanis Zalikha where she bought her scarves
because all of her scarves were made using favorite and restricted types. At that
time, Hanis Zalikha just started wearing a hijab so she wants to keep the hijab
simple and easy to wear. She comes out with instant hijab and luckily it gets plenty
of response.
Hanis Zalikha also invented her shawls comes with tiny hooks to secure around
the face and a drape over the shoulder so the scarves do not get ruin with pinholes
from wearing brooches. It also helps people with allergies to brooches. Because of
most of her shawls are always sold out after launching, she wants to try produce
other products.
Hanis Zalikha followed the trend of the time and introduced her own make-up
brand called Shade Dough by Hanis Zalikha. She produced a collection of matte
lipsticks because nowadays women love to wear matte lipsticks. She choose a
lipstick color that suits with all of skin tone because she knows not everyone suits
with every color.
2.4 Use of Influence Strategies
Hanis Zalikha is a famous blogger, actress, and even a decent influencer by
her fans. She has a bunch of fans since she were in university days due to her blog
and then she began to become an actress, her fans increased. Besides, she has
a good attitude and always spread a positivity on her social media account. She
also likes to share her experience in her life on her Instagram.
At first, Hanis Zalikha did not use her social media platform to promote her
brands but after she got demand from her fans about her products, she decided to
create an Instagram account for her business named cakenis and it has more 330K
followers. Hanis Zalikha did not use influential people as her agents because she
has the influence. Cakenis’s Lily Cake scarves collection once sold out in 2 hours
after launching.

CONCLUSION
First of all, I would like to thank my lecturer, Puan Noorul Huda binti Zakaria for
assigning study case for my assignment. With this study case, I have learnt a lot about
business especially entrepreneurial competencies based on my research. Now I understand
how hard to get into business and respect those who still have a courage to continue the
business even when they need to face a lot of challenges.
I am so impressed on how Hanis Zalikha, an actress become a housewife and now
become one of successful woman entrepreneur in Malaysia. I am glad I choose Hanis Zalikha
as my entrepreneur model, she gives an inspiration to every woman including housewives to
start a business. I also get to learn how to improve myself to get better understanding on
problem solving and decision making.
