1. Hi, I'm Harimurti Tahta and my friends used to call me Haru or Hari.
I'm a student of Korean Language
and Culture at Gajah Mada University, also a Korean Language and Literature exchange student at Kyung
Hee University Seoul Campus, South Korea.
2. My main goal in coming to Korea is to improve my Korean language skills, especially my speaking
skills. Because in Korea, only a few people speak English and that pushes me to keep using Korean
language. Also, I wanna see this world from a different perspective by learning and understanding how
Korean people think.
3. I learned Korean by watching Korean shows and also reading more Korean literature. My biggest
difficulty in learning Korean was that I had to understand the different levels of language that had to be
used in different situations.
4. Culture that feels hard to do is eating spicy food. I'm not used to eating spicy food whereas most
Korean food tastes spicy to me.
5. My advice for newcomers to Korea is to prepare yourself to bring your own trash because in Korea it
is very rare to find trash cans on the side of the road. And don't litter.
6. I first learned about Korean culture when I was in elementary school and I joined the Taekwondo
Club. Taekwondo uses Korean terms so I also learned a bit of Korean language from taekwondo.
7. At first I imagined that Korea is a country that has many beautiful places to visit. But after I arrived,
apparently my expectations were right on target. Korea does have many beautiful places to visit.
8. Yeah I imagine a lot of things and apparently my expectations never let me down. Korea is truly a
beautiful country and always amazes me.
9. Yes, some culture here influences me to be a good citizen and obey government rules. In Korea, it is
very easy to get punishments. Even more cruel, if viral on the internet will have an impact on our social
life. And again, it made me think that if I want to live happily, then I have to be kind.
10. During my time in Korea I often received invitations to drink alcohol together. but because I'm a
Muslim I always refuse when invited and I always explain why I can't drink alcohol. Fortunately, my
friends can understand me. Usually, they drink soju and I would order a cola.
