LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE

Grade V
(POE)

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of 50-minute lesson, the Grade V Degahoy can do
the following with at least 70% level of accuracy.
a. classify self-pollination from cross-pollination in plants
b. develop understanding that most of the plant usually
reproduce sexually.
c. describe how self-pollination and cross-pollination happen
in plants

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: Self-Pollination and Cross Pollination
Reference: Science Beyond Boarders pg 72-76

III. MATERIALS
 Chart
 Video presentation

IV. PROCEDURE
Recall

Good Afternoon class! (Good afternoon teacher) Last meeting

we have learned about the parts of the flower. So, now who
can come to the board and identify what are the parts of the
flower.
Now who can tell me what is receptacle? (Receptacle is the
enlarged upper end of a flower.) How about for sepals?
(Sepals are modified leaves which enclose.) How about for
petals? (Petals are the most obvious part of a flower.) The
stamen? (Stamen is the male part of a flower) and lastly, what
is pistil? (Pistil is the female part of a flower.)

A. Presentation

Class I would like to ask a several question. Have you visited

a garden? (Yes) what varieties of flower you have seen?
(Gumamela, Sunflower etc.) What makes the garden inviting
to sit down or spend time? (Because of its color) Do you
usually see a lot of flower in the garden? Why do you see a lot
of flower? (Because they reproduce.)

Problem:
 Why there’s a lot of flowers in the garden?
 How did the flower reproduce?

Prediction:

 Maybe they reproduce.

 Maybe the bees are the one who carry the pollen grains.
 Maybe the bees carry the pollen grain to another flower.

Now, we will have an activity but before that I will give you first
your guide questions for you to be guided while watching a
video presentation.

Guide Questions:
1. How does pollination take place?
2. What are the two types of pollination?
3. What are the agents of pollination?
4. What does the ovary of a flower contain?
5. How does the pollen reach the stigma?

B. Observation

Now, who can tell me, what are the things you must do while
watching the video?
 Pay attention
 Avoid make unnecessary noise
 Jot down the important details.

(VIDEO PRESENTATION)

C. Explanation

Now that you are done watching the video, what is the video
all about? (The video is all about pollination)
1. How does pollination takes place? (When pollen grains are
transferred from the anthers into the stigma.)
2. What are the main agents of pollination? (Bees, butterfly.)
3. Why did the bees need to pollinate the flower? (To
reproduce more plants.)
4. How does self-pollination happen? (When pollen grains is
transfer to the same flower that belongs to the same plant.)
5. What is cross-pollination? (The transfer of pollen grains
from the anther to the stigma of the another flower that
belongs to another plant but of the same kind.)
6. What are some of the plants that can self-pollinate?
(sunflower and rose)
7. What are some of the plants that cannot self-pollinate?
(Coconut flower and cucumber flower)

Pollination

2 types

Self-Pollination Cross Pollination

V. APPLICATION

Since you already know what is pollination, I will give you an

activity to check if you have learned something. Each group
will be provided a material for you to be use.

Instruction:
Classify the flowers if they are cross-pollination or self-
pollination.
Lily Coconut flower Sunflower Tulip Cucumber flower

Watermelon flower Rose Pumpkin flower Daffodil Mustard

Eggplant flower Bitter gourd flower Papaya flower Corn flower

SELF-POLLINATION CROSS-POLLINATION
1. Lily 1. Coconut Flower
2. Sunflower 2. Cucumber Flower
3. Tulip 3. Watermelon Flower
4. Rose 4. Pumpkin Flower
5. Daffodil 5. Bitter gourd flower
6. Mustard 6. Papaya Flower
7. Eggplant flower 7. Corn Flower
